Heres my somewhat belated report, due to a. the original board being dead for 2 weeks and b. the board coming back to life but then deleting the entire post for no apparent reason other than the number of smilies I'd used (not exactly excessive...) when I attempted to post it... :banghead:
The XR2s finished their season with a determined effort from Sandy Forrest to take just one race win away from the dominant Mr Keith but in the end he could only follow Alan to the flag. It was a bruising race in a number of respects with a multi car collision in the qualifying race (not actually required with 27 cars running on the day but glad they ran it anyway! ) and a fairly large bump between Stewart Scott and Ian Fitzgerald which left most of the underside of Fitzgerald's car spread around the track surface.
Nick had a consistent and careful race as usual but despite Robertson falling off the road early on he just missed out on 5th in the Championship by 1 point... nice try anyway and lets see if you can build on that next year!
Charlie had the weekend from hell... at the start of the qualifying race he avoided the pile up to lead for all of 10 yards before falling off into the tyres... the car required a fair bit of silver tank tape on the front along with a loose half front bumper The dents along the driver side panelling told their own story too He made it out for the final but didn't last too long - coasting to a halt on the hairpin access road. Further dents on the passenger side could provide clues to that one... looks like the Crash Testing really is in progress now!!
As for our other drivers, Neil had a good day - mixing it in the midfield and really going for it as far as we could see - good stuff! Surprising that Neil, Ian and Derek all seemed to recognise GR as well when we were hanging around team Moon River at one point (think I was a mystery to them though! )
Ian seemed to struggle a bit towards the back - more car problems? John F seemed quick but every time he made up places he seemed to lose them out of our sight... fighting drive though! Norm was a no-show sadly, the maroon and gold car looked a bit lonely in the ICR paddock!
The Legends were the usual barrel of fun and all six races were great entertainment. Gary Crawford had a couple of top tens even though he missed a race and visiting National runner Robin Drysdale had a couple of wins. Star of the day though was Jamie Clark with 3 wins as he tried desperately to make the most of his very slim title hopes. Didn't quite make it though and Colin Noble is worthy champ again.
Alan Kirkaldy was the usual victor in the FFord race and it'll be interesting to see what he can do in the National Winter Series. Julian Taylor's team had a big display set up of their cars for sale.
Alasdair McCaig won the Caterham race while Ian Cowie won the Championship from Derek McMillan who had been leading the series coming into the race. Derek apparently tried an overtaking move whilst behind Cowie that took him off and out of the Championship...
That's not the end of it though as he won the Saloons and Sportscars title with his Caterham. John Muir won from Kevin Adam and Olly Ross in a shortened race when Claire Luti apparently went off at Duffus and brought out the red flags and ambulances - anyone know how she is and what happened? Olly Ross probably would have won if the race had gone the distance as he was making up an amazing amount of ground despite his 30 second penalty. He won't be around next year unless he has something to actually race against so we need more quick cars! Bill Carr's MGB picked up a prize too for being the only car in it's class... some more of the Historic boys should have entered as they could have won a trophy.
Shame to end the season with a red flag but it's been a very good one. Gotten to know loads about the XR2s and their drivers, the Legends have really flourished, the Caterhams are producing great racing despite the grid size, a future star has hopefully been brought out in Alan Kirkaldy (he mentioned wanting to do saloons in the future) and the Saloons and Sportscars have had plenty of varied cars to stare at, more of the same Porsches and Ferraris etc next year please! ;D
cya next year!!
