Seen quite a few re-shell jobs on ebay in the past.

I'd need to know the exact type of crash though because I'm told that even a relatively minor front end shunt can do major damage around the engine and gearbox.
Comments anyone? (in a new thread to get back to topic)

Just ordered the initial tyres today for both car - 16 slicks and 8 wets - £3620 There was also the 24 wheels that I had to order... AWSponsor - what were you saying about costs being similar? !!! Nick.

I said similar not the same... ;D
Why are you buying them all up front? Is there a regs type limit on the sets you can use per season or do you get better discount doing it like that?

No discount - £150.50 after VAT each. That's not that many tyres for two cars - 8 slicks and one set of wets. After speaking with some of the other guys, the Dunlops are really good tyres - Dan Rose was saying that they just kept getting better at Silverstone rather than going off. We are guesstimating that we'll more or less need one new tyre for each meeting there on in... No regs re quantities - you can buy as many as your VISA card will allow! N.

Oh right... Well in that case one of your new tyres = the same as a pair of fronts for an XR2 so it isn't going to be that much more expensive if you're only fitting one per new race.. Just feels like it Begs the question though that if the STs ultimately replaces the XR2s at Knockhill as to whether the slick/wet choice is the most economic or a Kumho type all rounder will be more cost effective. Or - as the XR2s are showing no real sign of fading away I wonder whether a change of rules to use slicks/wets might add some further excitement ... Andrew and I have thought it would be fun to boot up an XR2 with a set of slicks and see what it does to the lap time..

Andrew and I have thought it would be fun to boot up an XR2 with a set of slicks and see what it does to the lap time.. Going from the difference in lap times between the 1400 Si on slicks and treaded road tyres, I'd predict a 62s lap is a real possibility, maybe even a high 61. It's not just the cornering that gets faster, once the slicks start working, the braking area gets much shorter too. With the wets, just forget the rain and drive as you would in the dry, the wets can shift more water quicker than a bucket and mop ;D

It's good to see the XRs still attracting big grids - there must be a good few years left in them yet but your right, the SMRC will have to start looking at a replacement series at some point (Minis, Fiesta STs etc).
The Silverstone meeting got the biggest ever Fiesta Championship grid with 34 cars entering - there are a lot of Si and Zetecs still to debut + the rest of the STs.
We know there are 6-7 confirmed ST builds ongoing so we are confident by the end of the season, we may be nearing double figures in STs, although 2007 really is more of a development year as we are setting regs as we go.
Dan Rose was telling us that there is BIG interest with other Si / Zetec drivers maybe going ST next year...and I've heard from Iain C. that there is also interest up there...

Charlie ....... That would make XR2s quicker than Minis.. Interesting ;D
Nick ... 6-7 in Scotland or UK wide?
It's difficult to forecast what might replace the XR2. Whatever it is it will have to compete well on capital and running costs to guarantee the grid sizes. Maybe it won't be a Ford... What about the VW Polo or Lupo... They look like fun.

Re the tyres, are those 17" wheels you'll be on like the road model Nick ?
What are the XR2's, 14" or therabouts ?
As for the future it'd be nice if the XR2's were open up to more like the Fiesta championship with different classes, although how you'd calculate the overall champion I don't know !

There are no STs planned for Scotland yet (and no Knockhill round for us) - I am talking about the Ford Fiesta Championship run by the BRSCC for Si, Zetec and (new for 2007) STs...
Tyres are 185/580R15 Dunlops and we are using 7x15 ATS DTC Motorsport Crystal Silver light weight racing wheels in 40 mm offset, as fitted to the German Ford ST Cup.
The XR2s are on R13...
Nick.
