A little bird tells me that on Saturday night at the SMRC dinner dance, the award for 'Best Prepared Single Seater' was given to a Legend.
Whilst I am quite aware that a Legend has only one seat, I don't think that it is what you bring to mind when the term 'single seater' is used.
If you want to be like that then virtually every car which competes 'on any Sunday' could be considered a single seater.
Surely almost all of the XR2s are single seaters according to SMRC logic!
Is this just another example of the SMRC showing their contempt for the Formula Ford Zetec series?
I think we should be told!

Got to agree there - in my eyes the only single seaters in the SMRC classes are the FFords... And whilst I love the Legends they most certainly are not "single seaters" in the true sense of the word as you say... why not just have a "best prepared Legend" category?
To me if any single seater should be awarded prizes like that it should be Alan Kirkaldy's Fford given it's age etc it performed pretty well throughout the year and he managed to mix it well with the Junior FFord and National Series runners when they visited. Though how much of this was down to the car compared to Alan's input I don't know!

Lol, TL, exactly! I think the SMRC should stick with the single-seater definition that most people use, ie. one seat enclosed in the c*ckpit, uncovered wheels, and no roof! That's what I call a single seater, anyway, and Legends fail on two of those criteria, even if they are designed to only have one seat.....

That is the most ridiculous bit of censorship I've ever seen! Time to change the censored words list... again :laugh:

Gary deserved the award single seater or not but just means the real single seaters got to do a better job next year, Gary as in Gary Crawford? (i.e our resident ScottishClubRacing.co.uk Legends correspondent? :cheese: ) If so - well done Gary! (Nick plugs his own website on his own forum so I'm learning from the master! :rotfl: ) lol, it's the age old question - how many people can you fit in a mini? Or in this case a Legend... btw - a historic racer who knows a bit about Legends? Messers McCosh or Gauld perchance?

Nice one Gary, but a single seater as commonly understood its not, no matter how well prepared.
Best prepared Legend, yes :trophy:

Wot like www.ns-r.co.uk?Only joking. I think that calssing a Legend as a Single Seater is outrageous even by the SMRC's standards! ;D Granted, Gary's legend does look good but surely a FF Zetec car should have won?

Oh well, that woke you all up then!
A cursory glance at page 238 of the 2002 MSA 'Blue Book' will define the term single seater for you.
Part (b) of that definition states "It must be possible to enter or leave the driver's seat without it being necessary to remove or detach any part of the vehicle, other that the steering wheel or seat belts/harness."
I figure that all these wee Legends have little doors to get in and out of, and that means that they don't fit the technical definition of a single seater.
QED
It does also flag up that there probably is a need to create an award for the Legends rather than hijack one which was intended for a completely different class.
Giving an award for a single seater (as defined) to another class does seem to be outwith the true spirit of motor racing.

WELL SAID ELVIS, AT LEAST SOMEONE HAS HIS FACTS RIGHT, I DON`T KNOW THIS PARTICULAR LEGEND BUT BY ALL ACCOUNTS IT`S A WELL PREPARED CAR, BUT SHORT OF CUTTING THE ROOF & THE WINGS OFF IT WILL NEVER BE A SINGLE SEAT RACING CAR !
