>:(What a stupid way to end the season davefiddes - I can't agree more. After all this is meant to be a sport and its bloody good to see drivers congratulate each other afterwards. Heartening usually when on the tv they wave/give the thumbs up to each other after the flag.

Frankly the Mini events at venues like this Mount Stewart place and Fintray etc didn't interest me in the slightest (hillclimbs, sprints and "Multi-Use Stage Rallies" never will) so I have no idea how those events unfolded but from the chaos in the Scottish Rally Championship round the Minis took part in and the general driving standards, high expense and more times than not fairly high boredom factor in the races at Knockhill, not to mention this debacle unfolding at the end of the season, it seems that the Minis haven't had the best of inaugural seasons. (That's me in polite mode! ) Given the way it's all unfolded I can understand why teams like Ecurie Ecosse are selling their cars and moving on...

Although I'm not particularly bothered about the minis, I've noticed that both Ian and Graham haven't replied to some questions in this post... Anyone in this forum is perfectly entitled to their opinion, which is fine, as long as the text is amicable. I am amazed that someone who classes themselves as "clerk of the couse" types "who are you anyway?". Brilliant piece of building Scottish Motor Sport...you obviously don't realize how much work these guys do creating a website for all, for no monetary value... Nick www.ns-r.co.uk

Sorry to take so long to reply to NSR but I have been very busy preparing for my next event. Those of you with your finger on the pulse will know that the shoot out is off and that Ally McKeever is Champion.
Lets hope that those that are happy to gossip and give their opinions without an understanding of the facts or the rules and regulations, will consider their words carefully in future. It is quite embarassing to see a club like the SMRC getting caught out in this way. It is even worse when officials are forced to back down because of their lack of understanding of the rules. Perhaps if we were to be more open about matters and had more communication between all involved, we might avoid repeats of this poor end to a competitive season.
I wish to add that although the Scottish Mini Cooper Challenge did suffer, as spotted by Knockhill Fan, from poor driving standards, steep repair costs and, at times, was not the most exciting race out there, the folk involved were great fun. The catering was super, the practical jokes and wind ups, brilliant, and the standards of competition high.
Lets hope that those in charge can learn from the mistakes that were made this year and allow the series to develop.
GPM
PS You will be hard pushed to find another official that puts as much work into this sport as Ian McRae. Perhaps his way with words could improve but rest assured I will not let him forget this thread.

Whoah! I check this board regularly for months and nowt much happens, then you miss a few days and there's an almighty bun-fight!! If indeed there is/was a court case to decide who won the Minis then that's disappointing as it's not in any way in the spirit of the sport. (Before anyone shoots me down here, I don't know much of the story other than from what I've read on this board).
Ian, fair enough I got it wrong saying it was a sprint, but people are only as good as the information they are given, and when you take it from the organisers of the Mini Challenge/Championship/Adventure/Whatever then you tend to assume it's right. Since Mount Stuart ran to Stage Rally Regulations, then I won't pass comment as I haven't the foggiest about the regs for such events!
Minis, OK not the best competition I've seen in the world but pretty good entertainment value none-the-less and I say well done to all those involved in the organisation. Personally (and this is only an opinion here!!) I don't think that we should all start shooting folk down in flames for having less than perfect organisation. It's a lot of work by a lot of unpaid people and as far as I know, this is the first time (recently anyway) that the SMRC have ventured beyond circuit racing to run a series. It also appears to be the most high profile series that has been run since I can remember so naturally any small mistakes are going to be scrutinised and come under heavy criticism. Nobody's perfect...
Cheers, Baz

Lets hope that those that are happy to gossip and give their opinions without an understanding of the facts or the rules and regulations, will consider their words carefully in future. Errr.... yeah. Lets not have a healthy debate about the series that we have all paid good money to see. We wouldn't possibly want to learn anything about what actually happened or the rules, regs that were actually involved would we...? I'm not sure any of us would want to live in a world where we have to consult a lawyer and two expert witnesses before expressing an opinion!! If you don't want speculation and gossip then can I suggest you take part in a race series that takes place on a closed private circuit with no sponsorship, no spectators, no media and where nobody knows anybodies name. Did you ever read the book Fight Club?
