I've never raced at a bigger meeting like this before so can the more experienced hands tell me if there is anything different that happens?
For example the main thing I'm wondering, racing in XR2 / ST's, is going by the timetable and where we're scheduled - Race 1 is at 1.40pm on Saturday, after that can we scurry off home, and our second Race is at 2.55pm on the Sunday. Does that mean we don't need to be to the circuit till early afternoon on the Sunday.
Does say "all times are provisional and may be changed" so I'm certainly planning on being around all weekend. Big question I have is when we will get scrutineered as qualifying is at 0830 so all 22-odd XR2/STs will need to be done before then?
What Russell's video doesn't show is me about 1 ft from mating an ST with 2 XR2's, now that was scary having to get on the anchors on the exit of the chicane and looking in the mirrors hoping everyone else would avoid. I'll get my video up in due course.
Drove like a twat in today's race and got what I deserved - last in ST's. Probably my race in experience in ST's in hindsight I was likely driving it too hard and making mistakes like taking 4th into hairpin instead of 2nd etc, just shouldn't be doing that.
Positives to take away from the weekend is I met my lap time target for Saturday's race and then beat it again in today's race. And no damage.
Got 5th in race 1 after being mugged on both starts and once again was in close battle with Dave but was never close enough to think about putting a move on him. Had an interesting 1st start when Alex slid wide into leslie's and gave me a nice panel bash but no damage so not too annoyed at all.
Race 2, got a nice start on the inside then out of the hairpin Dave must of got a bad gear change and I managed to get up the inside going up the main straight, nice clean fight again. Once I got a bit of a gap opened up I just got my head down and put in nice laps as I was at that stage too far behind Charlie, Wayne and Tim to have a chance of the podium.
Nice videos again Russell and was good to see Greg on his 1st race meeting, kinda reminded me of my one with how nervous you get before race time
