Yep , Elvis got to lock & loll with you on this one old chap, while the minis do seem to have brought in bigger crowds , which can only be a good thing it should not be at the expense of the other series !

Im sorry to be to the point but I cant help feeling its a race for the woman and toff spectators! "Oh look darling theres a car on the track racing like my one, oh ladida theres another one oh and another one, how lovely!" Give them the same regs as the XR2s, strip them out, cage, suspension and a decent semi slick tyre and they should be amazing to see - they'll be a wee bit faster and more controlled for better overtaking! The funiest racing ive ever see was the minis at the last F3/GT day, two wheels everywhere! Dave.

I can see the Mini series developing in to a very good championship with time. Its about time racing in Scotland had some fresh blood as the XR championship albeit very entertaining, is starting to show it's age!! I think the mini championship will also continue to pull in crowds since the public can relate to them as every day road cars. This is exactly how Touring Cars attracts large crowds.

You have taken this a bit far! you cannot in any way compare the mini fans to the touring cars. The touring cars are a big bit different! Minis will never match Them .

Quite right Alan, A better comparison would be the minis compared to the 2CV`S going round Knockhill !!, to compare them with the touring cars is taking it to far, maybe we`re being a bit harsh, they might still be running them in at 1/2 throttle !!

There was nothing wrong with the 2CVs! Bit of a leasurely gap between laps but apart from that!!! IMHO they had a lot more spectacle than the Minis have so far. Perhaps if they fitted them with racing silencers and took them a bit closer to 98 dB??

I was only making a light comparison to the Touring Cars in the way in which people can relate to them as road cars. I think we will see some good racing throughout the season from the minis as we will from the XR's, however I do feel like they have had their day and would be more suited to Cowdenbeath!

RE the XR2`S belonging at Cowdenbeath, The thing is Stig some of them are looking a bit past it but remember that these cars all have to get through scrutineering and the class is still very strong and well supported so how is it they are not promoted like the new minis are when they are such a large part of the entry on racedays ?

The touring cars may well attract large crowds, and ultimately that is what the organisers want, but IMHO they are not particularly entertaining 'in the flesh'. Watching touring cars on tv is far better. Some of the best racing seen in recent years has been support races for the touring cars, eg FF's and even Minis (real minis, not these ones the Germans make). Support them and encourage them, but not at the expense of other classes. Edit: I have German friends, JE, so watch it - GR

I really enjoyed the Mini's. They are not what I went to see...but I thought that for standard road going cars, they provided some good entertainment.
I was just waiting for someone to roll going in to duffus, but somehow they stayed upright. As for the difference in treatment between the series...well, it's to be expected really...it's a new series...chance for new sponsors to get some mileage out of them. In a season or 2, it may be old news.
The legends are the most entertaining to watch (IMO)...and the XR2's although very entertaining are looking a bit battered...but with grid sizes like they are in the XR series, it's not surprising there are a couple of knocked panels. What they do provide is a realistic way of getting in to the sport....and that for me is more important.
If the Mini's get people through the gates, then it can only be a good thing though.
Andy.

Welcome aboard Andy - Glad you enjoyed the racing the other week. At least the grid size is doing quite well in the mini's - 17 including the guest car (I think). 2003 is looking quite good as the Mini's, Legends and XR2's have good grids. The FF Zetecs have been very entertaining and some great battles from what I hear in the S & S races. Let's not pick on the Mini's - at least it's another guaranteed race series for the SMRC that may attract more spectators... Nick www.ns-r.co.uk

I have to agree with Stig - I thought the Minis were superb to watch. While they may not be quite as close as the XR2's the drivers have just shelled a lot of cash for the cars and everyone is on a budget at the end of the day. Plus I don't remember the last time I saw an XR2 hitting the tyre wall on the main straight at 70mph! I've seen some of the cars come down Duffus on one wheel which is highly entertaining!
In terms of the amount of exposure the Minis are getting, have the drivers not paid a hefty registration fee and that is probably what is paying for the PR? - and they have got that tent with seats in it which I assume is more for the sponsors who have put a lot of cash into the Championship.
I think it is very unfair to pick on them at such an early stage, and I certainly don't think that they are getting coverage at the expense of any of the other championships - in every article I've seen whether it be in local or national press the other series' get mentioned just as often.
I think its great for Scottish Motorsport and at least the SMRC are doing something to try to promote it.
