Well guys I sat my ARDS test today and...... there's good news and bad news.... The good news is...I passed The bad news is I will no doubt be out on track beating everybody else ! (Seriously if I finish my 1st race in one piece I'll be happy ! ) Had a seriously fun day, it was more informal than what I was expecting, Sandy Forrest explained a hell of a lot of points, which shall be remembered, and then he told us when we went out it'd be in the new Leon Cupra's Knockhill took delivery of only a short while back (last couple of weeks I think). That alone put a smile on my face as it's a car thats on my "wish list". I got paired with Harry Simpson, did a few laps then he did a couple and then I did 4 - 5 with the assesment at the end. I was a bit frightened of the car as it had so much power, and the brakes, man alive they could stop a freight train ! It was a shame there was the Experience cars out on the track still, and I thought I was going fast in them last year - they kind of got in the way, one held us and the 2 seater car up for about a whole lap. Quite a few spinners out there, the other guys on the course said it was the same fella both times, but to be honest I wasn't paying attention to who it was - concentrating on the track etc. Went back and did the theory side, passed OK and got absolutely drenched running back to my car. (Typical Knockhill ! ) Two things arose from it, when we went back to do the written side, I was still shaking with excitement, then when I got into my road Fiesta I couldn't believe how crappy the brakes were !!

Well done Blair! Wait until you get a racing car with real power. I used to step into my 1.4 civic from the Imp, the acceleration and the brakes took alot of getting used to! Even the XR2 to the civic was shocking! I'd have to drive down south for uni and it'd take me till I was in England to get used to it again! Remember the XR2 is still waiting for a new owner.

XR2's seem the best option I think Andrew. As for getting out, I hope I'll manage one of the last 3 rounds at Knockhill this year.

Good work! Just find some cash and get out there now. You're right about getting from a race to a road car, feels weird the first few times you do it. I remember getting out the race car on a Saturday after testing and into the Cavvy to drive home...seating position somewhat higher than in the XR2 and comparitively no brakes. Then when home got into the Megane, felt like I was sitting on top of the thing not to mention the incredibly soft suspension that basic French cars seem to have, nearly felt sea sick Baz

I think buying the outfit will nearly max that out! Did a tally up of everything yesterday.
Question for you all - whats the difference between a 2 layer and 3 layer suit ? Are they both compliant with standards ?

Answer - 1 layer ;D Seriously though, it depends on its certification. Check with the blue book you get with your licence what the current standards are.

Yeh it's FIA 1986 or FIA 2000 something or other, just that Demon Tweeks only say "FIA approved" - not to what standards.

Just a little update (after a few months much has changed!) - couple of piccies of my XR2 which I bought a couple of weeks ago: Some handsome fella jumped into frame whilst I was snapping, beat's me who it is ! As you'll probably have guessed I got it from Jamie Bicket, but all the stickers will be staying on for the final races otherwise I'd pull half the paint off. It's a bit tatty but nothing a bit of hard work won't sort - thats the winter project for me! Minus 1 embarrasing "outlap" spin, another one when I used too much off the grasscrete on the exit at McIntyres - by the end of today I was getting a real good feel for the car, think I have Duffus sorted but the chicane is still needing some work. Don't know what sort of lap times I was doing - I felt quick but it could count for nothing when I'm racing. Looking forward to it !
