Series following the Seat Cupra Championship starts this Saturday at 1.10pm on ITV1. It is folllowed by an "extra" show on ITV2 beginning at 1.40pm on Saturday and I think the second installment of the series is at 1.15pm on Sunday, as always followed at 1.45pm by an extra show on ITV2.
Can't wait for it myself to tell you the truth. From what I've heard, it seems to be going behind the scenes a lot to the drivers homes, workplaces etc..

Well what did everyone think of that then. I watched both programmes, the Racing Rivals on ITV1 then the Racing Rivals Xtra on ITV2. Basically, the show on ITV1 is more or less an edited version of the ITV2 show. Quite enjoyed the programmes, seemed to have a good amount of content but in this programme no racing so far, I'm sure that will come tomorrow. However, good choice of music, espeically "Round Round" being played to a hoard of spinning Seats!! It's NOT for the pure racing fan I'd say, more aimed at the casual viewer but it's pretty interesting. It's said to be the "motorsport equivalent of Pop Idol" and you don't expect much singing on there so there's no reason to expect much racing here!

I guess I shouldn't be hugely surprised at just how bad it actually is - I've watched about 2 hours of Pop (sorry Racing) Rivals and seen about 2 minutes of racing. That tart they've got presenting it (not Jason Plato, the other one! ) clearly hadn't even been to a circuit before ("Why are they weaving from side to side?" and various other airhead comments) It's obviously aimed at people who know nothing about racing and aren't really interested in it - spending all it's time showing us Rob Huff's rich Daddy and several complete unknowns who are having trouble keeping the car pointed in the wrong direction. They seem to be ignoring Gordon Sheddon for some reason too which I don't quite get... But anyway, as I say this program clearly isn't aimed at actual motorsport fans so I probably don't have any right to complain. Just wish they had an alternate program that actually showed the races with a decent commentator.

The tart in question is Nell McAndrew, ironic the amount of hot air eminating from her mouth given she (apparently ) said virtually nothing in the jungle for several weeks. Yes, it's a bit crap, but no worse than 'Be A Grand Prix Driver' on Channel 5.

It's billed as a documentary anyway so I never expected much pure racing action.
Besides, i think it's more of what Seat is wanting in terms of promotion. Giving them a good name to the casual viewer watching it as it seems that Seat is very supportive of them all.(drivers)
£75,000 is a fair whack anyway for a 10 race series over 5 weekends. I think Clio's are about £70,000 for a full season. Can't remember how long that is offhand but it's more than 10 races! Mind you I suppose the 75k is a bit like the lottery, they're all paying for the prize that is the ETCC drive... Hmmm anyone want to give me £75,000 for next year ?

Should have been paying more attention to this forum only chanced on the ITV1 Sunday 27th prog. Not having seen the first one and hearing no mention of the first one this one seemed to assume I knew more than I did. They seemed to concentrate on 2 or 3 people and I suppose everyone in Scotland noticed they hardly gave Gordon Sheddon a mention. For me the second race with Gordon missing a gear while in the lead could be construed as sweet revenge.. It was Gordon who took me for my ARDS licence. The Knockhill MG's were just 2 days old and the gears were a bit stiff so tried a double de clutch to see if they would go in easier. After inquiring what I thought I was doing Gordon said " Motor Racing is a bit different from when you last raced we do have sincro-mesh in gearboxes now " Cheeky b***er. Still I do hope he does well and gets more TV coverage in other races. Ali
