It seems quiet round here again....
Went to the Hot Marques day at Knockhill Sat before last. It was the first time I'd been to anything like that...came away really impressed. There was quite an interesting array of cars out on track: every Lotus Exige in Scotland by the looks of it, bundle of Elises, a few 996 Porkers and a Ferrarri (it wasn't a F333 or an F1 car so I couldn't identify it ), cobra replica, an Evo VI or VII, a Westfield XTR2. The session I watched didn't seem very stressed at all. Folk just came and went when when they were ready and everyone ran round at their own pace...legalised and reasonably safe speeding!
The Evo was shifting, once its turbo spun up, down the straights but the Loti were so much faster round the bendy bits. The XTR2 was a dedicated track day car and was quite quick. It had problems with bits of ali flaking off into the engine bay from something that wasn't happy..probably the gearbox/gear change.
As I was leaving a Radical SR3 turned up...road legal. I didn't think they did that! Makes an Ultima look very sensible. Reg was SR03 RAD which was quite neat. If you see it on the road it'll be the one sneeking under the lorries.
Also saw a Caterham R500...which was nice.
Anyway. It looks like quite a good way to push your road car as fast as you are able but in modest safety. I guess it costs more than a hot hatch day but at least you don't have to worry about being T-boned by some schemie in a clapped out banger he bought at auction for £800. Also the lack of "top" totty competitions was a big plus.
Hope that we eventually see the Radical at least out in an SMRC meeting. Seems a shame to have a car that would easily be the fastest car at the meeting not out there racing with John Muir, Olly Ross and the like.
While I'm rambling away. Did anyone see the Coram LMP on the Scottish news bit of the news at 10 on BBC1 last night? It looked neat enough but having seen the thing moving for the first time I'm disappointed at how much it looks like it was styled in an industrial estate in Lanarkshire (which it was) Glad they got a plug though.
