Just received the following press release about Ian Forrest (seems this website thing's pretty handy, if it means I get press releases sent to me ): ------------ IAN FORREST will be back to do a full season at Knockhill Racing Circuit in XR2's for the first time in 3 years. Ian has won 30 championships since 1973 - but not in the new millenium....yet. He will also be presenting the Scottish XR2 Championship for his latest series on Discovery Channel, with live commentaries during the races. The former BTCC privateer champion is building a new car which he hopes will be ready for the first round in April. -------------

This looks pretty good!
Ian's been involved in a lot of the series on Discovery that Mark Evans has done, "A Car is Born, A Car is Reborn and A Racing car is born"
Maybe he is doing something along the same lines, whereby the cameras follow him building the car then chase him at the races.
Also good for the XR2's overall, hope the TV cameras are still about when I get round to racing!

The boss is back PMSL! I think a car with discovery channel funding will be unbeatable never mind being driven by Ian, should be good to watch! Dave.

Really like the sound of the tv programmes there - just checked that me and KF can get Discovery, as if we couldn't, we'd have been quickly upgrading our channel package so we could

It'll probs be on Discovery Home & Leisure if any of the channels. I love watching the Car are reborn programmes, just to get to see the couple of minutes worth of Ian Forrest thrashing a poor wee Hillman Imp around Knockhill...

He-He-He! I love the picture of Ian, best I've seen in years. Just goes to show he's got the perfect face for radio

Brilliant photo - Ian looks like some sort of terrorist!
It sounds like it's really going to be good up at the front this year. Don't forget Sandy's car is also in Leeds getting the full treatment and Andy Allan is flying.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get up there as well...

Brilliant photo - Ian looks like some sort of terrorist! Anyone else remember the Exocet incident from a few years ago...? Maybe an XR2 is a weapon of mass destruction! OTOH I'm glad the XR2 driving seems to have calmed down a little in more recent years...

Dave - is the incident you're referring to the one at the hairpin when Caspar managed to take out about 3 cars?

I think it was further back than that. As I remember it Ian made an, erm, ambitious move up the inside (at the hairpin I think) and ended up in the side of someone else car.... Later he was accused of coming out of nowhere like an exocet missile. Next race Ian turns up with a new number plate: "EXOCET"

Oh - I didn't know about that one - that must have been before my time.
I remember when Caspar took out Ally McKever and Ian Forrest at the hairpin big style - he T-boned Ally and nearly broke his arm as it bent the door bar in. Ally was not happy.
Then the next race was at Oulton Park and he did exactly the same thing. Ally was seen raging about the paddock looking for Caspar after the incident but Caspar was keeping a very low profile!

I think I remember that one. Definitely remember seeing at least one XR2 door squished so much it was formed around the door bar/rollcage... It wasn't that long since door bars were considered non-essential....

hehe, good old Caspar - he's been a bit of a nutbar behind the wheel pretty much every time I've seen him in the XR2s... remember his brief stint in the Legends? So many 360 degree spins... ;D
