I think the marshalls should club together and run a car between them..... How about it David... I can just see you in Peter's car or indeed Andrew's XR ;D

Peter be careful what you do in terms of building a car. There are only select numbers of open championships. We had the same problem when we came to sell the Tiga, Cosworth, Stratos because it didn't really fit into any other championship other than ours. I am sure John Muir had the same problem with the Starlet, apparently he sold the car minus the engine for £6k. Having a big hairy saloon is all very well for beating everyone at Knockhill but in time you'll want to expand again and no one will be willing to buy it because there are no classes it can be driven in. Ours, SEMSEC, WRDA, Castle Coombe and the DDMC are the few classes that'd actually let a car in like it. We (the S+S grid) have been given a yellow card for next season, there might not be a championship to run a car like your current one and your potential uber Fiesta. We are in the same boat, no where to race the Mallock or my Imp, we are the main stays of that championship, on and off for the past 20 years.
I am really getting quite worried because as Dagman David, Dick Winchester and others will agree with me the Sports/GTs and saloon races have been the backbone of the SMRC for the past 40 years+ famous names used to race, Jimmy McRae, Tommy Dickson, Eric Liddell, John Fyda, Ron Cumming and on special occasions Stirling Moss, David Leslie, Jim Clark, Sir Jackie Stewart, Roy Saladori etc all racing from time to time in different classes.
People like me, cut their teeth in the S+S. Cars like Chris Docherty's are killing off the championship, like Ron Cumming's ones did before him and people before that too. I live to race, I can't afford to buy or develop a 500bhp monster, its club racing after all, if you want to go faster go onto the national stage, caterhams, radicals, GTs, Britcars. The more big powerful cars that come along the fewer "garagistes" will turn up and we will no longer have sportscars racing at the SMRC.
Sorry rant over.

hello everyone, just a quick couple of points. i do have a new project. it wont be a cossie and it wont be 500,600,700,800 bhp. I understand your point Richard about these cars killing off S+S because of the huge horsepower. The same could be said about people killing off classes in S+S by buying cars that are built by works teams.
Due to work commitments i can only race in the SMRC and i am building a car that meets the SMRC regs.

I understand your point Richard about these cars killing off S+S because of the huge horsepower. The same could be said about people killing off classes in S+S by buying cars that are built by works teams. Is it worth suggesting getting them banned? It has turned into a procession rather than a race, I am sure Robert Pritchard would be happy to race with someone rather than getting "rubbed" or "nudged". I watched the racing on TV last week and it appeared to me the Andrew Gallacher used brut force to get past Robert. I am not looking for an arguement, that is pure observation and want to race. As for the "works" teams I understand completely what you are saying, Peter. A couple of seasons before you started we were the only team to prepare our cars out of our own garage rather than having a pro-garage behind us, it showed because we were retiring by silly amateurish mistakes. The Lutis, John Nathan, John Muir, Kevin Adam, all the Caterhams were run by ICR and then there was us. We had one of the best cars in the paddock between 93 and about 98, we had a team of around 8, if they were mechanically minded they would polish the car or blow tyres up etc. We had our chief mechanic who was a senior technician at the local Ford garage preparing the engine and his brother doing the rest of the donkey work, bleeding brakes, changing oil and doing all the hard work. Our chief mechanic now has a new wife and his time that he used to spend down at our car was putting up curtains, fitting the kitchen etc. We used to win championships with our garagiste car, multiple championships, now you've got to spend £50k+ to get near the front! Sorry Peter, I hijacked the thread again!

Dick, I have been in Andrew's car.... as a passenger of course!! Bit spartan, no CD player and very noisy... don't think the other half would approve!!
If you were willing to be dgsponsor, am sure we could come to some arrangement!

If you run a relatively open class, then someone will always come along with a bigger wallet and beat everyone for that one reason. In fact, even in tightly restricted classes the same is true and it's the same in pretty much all sports...money=performance, unless you're a talentless twat ;D

Barry - that's why series such as the XR's and Minis are run to such tight regs and why God invented scrutineers....
It avoids - mostly - people having a performance advantage. It then comes down to the driver and how well maintained the car is. The latter of course being to an extent dependent on the depth of your wallet although it has to be said that even then it doesn't guarantee you'll do well.

I agree Dick, I have seen several drivers with large bank balances come in with the quickest cars on the grid by several seconds but they have little or no talent to keep their cars on the track.
Others, don't have any money and so much talent but they can't afford to race or buy a more powerful car to prove themselves.

Hi Folks,I have been watching this thread intently since Peter put the add on. From all the comments I have seen, many of which are valid, and some which are funny !!!!. Motorsport has been since its conception competitive in all forms, and the comments about winning with money are in some cases factual. I do respect the view that closed classes like XR2 and BMW miinis do tend to favour car maintenance and bring out the drivers skill first and foremost, but open classes like S&S allow people like us to take standard cars, and modify them to perfom far outwith their original spec. Lets remember that many road car features came from the race track and are now findimg their way back in the form of the closed classes. Tadstar doesnt have a big budget, but we are lucky enough to have good sponsors, which I may add are out there waiting to be collected. We enjoy the technical challenge of "doing it ourselves" even though there are many hours of grief involved, but part of our pleasure is "making it work". This car has many innovative engineering elements that work.We have done that with this car, and its a great drive. Anybody want to buy it, get in touch and we'll see if we can get a deal going. Its not nicknamed the "cossie killer" for nothing. Lets see some support for S&S or we run the risk of losing it. All the members of the Tadstar team are looking forward to getting into the 2008 season..... Lastly, this is the "For Sale" section, not the "Moaning Section". Can we get a new thread started for those that wish to comment on the pros and cons of budgetsand abilities, and leave the add section to do its job. This isnt meant to offend anybody !!!!
