Hi Keith, Please can you give me an idea of the prices (inc VAT) for the handheld extinguishers? We have stopped using the fully plumbed in systems in the XR2's as the pull cords etc are more hassle than they're worth. Cheers, Nick www.ns-r.co.uk

Keith will not like me for saying this, but what is the point of a handheld extinguisher?!
Scenario 1) Small fire in engine bay. By the time you get out of your harness and seat and remove the extinguisher from its holder then the marshalls will be there to deal with it.
Scenario 2) Major fire, in the engine bay. As I understand it you can't lift the bonnet to spray any handheld in?
Scenario 3) Fire in the cockpit. Eh, I'll take my chances with an occassionally oiled pull cord!!
Alternatively Keith, maybe I have just written a great ad for "upgrading" to plumbed in?!
Noticed this at the stock cars recently too. They all seem to have to carry a fire extinguisher, but they are all handhelds, and are all attached in a way that you couldn't remove them by hand anyway, so what is the point?!
Cheers Norm

Norm,
Points noted ! Regulation guidelines in Motorsport both for MSA & FIA sanctioned events state that a Hand Held extinguisher plus a plumbed in system is mandatory in quite a few different categories of racing.Particularly Rallying - National,International & Historic.
You could take your chances with the scrutineer but doubt whether you'd get away with it !
Cheers Keith.
