Perhaps some good news for the both of you.... Apparently Vauxhall are looking at running the Vectra next year, with the aim being to test it against the Astra soon, and Honda are looking at racing the Accord again next year....add into that we may have several ETCC cars like BMW 320's and SEAT Toledo's this means you can support the BTCC again, as almost all cars would be 4 doors, with a boot on the end for good measure!!! What dya reckon!

I know the BTCC hasn't been to Knockhill in 2003 but you've missed some great racing if you haven't been watching it. It's been the best season by far for a number of years and if Alan Gow gets his way, it should be even better next year. Formula BMW and the Seat Cupra championship should be on the race card next year as well. Nick www.ns-r.co.uk

It wasn't just the fact it wasn't coming to Knockhill, the whole thing just felt like a club series after West took over, not sure how - the number of pay drivers is a bit sad too, to have the like of Paul O'Neill winning races jsut shows how the depth in talent has vanished over the last couple of years.... Anyway, the king of Touring Cars is back and hopefully Gow can resurrect the series!

Agreed - tbh for the last two or three years it's felt kind of like the National Saloon championship used to... except I liked that series a lot better, because it was meant to be a club series, and didn't try to be the series that was once the best in the world. Having seen and loved the Super Touring era, seeing the series reduced to hardly any big name drivers (I just can't get excited about O'Neill, Bennett, Morrison, Hughes, etc... sure, they're talented drivers, but you can't tell just how good when almost all the top quality drivers left at once a few years back), with cars that look like hot hatches... well I already wasn't too interested even before Knockhill got axed, and that just finished off my little remaining interest, tbh. It's looking much better now, though - Gow knows what he's doing, and if the manufacturers are looking at bringing in proper cars again, then that will help a lot. I'm hoping some of the big name drivers make a comeback, too (isn't Rydell meant to be considering it, for example?), in which case I'd be a lot more interested in it than I currently am

Suppose it's just a transition phase that the BTCC has went through. I'm sure by 2005 it'll be far more exciting (doesn't actually mean it is, I know that big name drivers can make it seem more than it is.) Just got a gut feeling about that year in particular.. Rydell said he'd take a competitive factory drive in any series, DTM, ETCC, or BTCC and there is talk about him going to do the Aussie V8's next year with Triple Eight. BTW - that's where Yvan Muller's supposedly heading to to partner Paul Radisich...

Does anyone know anything much about the similar V8 series that is rumoured to be coming up here next year?? Somebody mentioned it on the commentary at the weekend but it wasn't anything I recongnised. Pretty sure it wasn't ASCAR.

Yeah, Supercar V8 (SCV8) you mean, are to be Cosworth based 550bhp RWD cars, spaceframe chassis (right term I think?) with body panels bolted onto them.
Andy Rouse is behind it - do you remember seeing the Pug 406 a few years ago that was the beginning of this only last time out it never took off really.
At the moment Vauxhall (Vectra), Honda (Accord), Peugeot (406) and Jaguar (X-Type) have granted permission to the organisers to use their body styles. The aim is to have 5 body styles available and up to 4 cars of each model can be ran, thus making a grand total of 20 in the first year. I think this figure is to be increased year by year.
There was talk of it being on the F3/GT package but it turns out they won't be - so are they looking at running SCV8 and a support package on their own next year? Personally could be quite exciting with 550bhp around Knockhill..

Sounds exciting. I've gone and done a bit of background reading (now I know what the series is called - thanks!) and it looks very promising. The regs seem to be a bit more open than Eurocar/Legends common chassis approach but not much. Taking the Legends approach of harder tyres + excess torque/horsepower should produce spectacular racing. Seems that they are getting the numbers too...the old Eurocar V8s never ever managed to get 20 cars sadly...then they went of to play on ovals never to be seen again Course they're going to be using Chevy V8s! No mention if they will stick to the old heavy (but cheap) iron small-block or if they will be brave and go for the newer ali alloy LS1/LS6. Either way it should sound loverly...

Have you heard the full support for BTCC next year? It seems to be Formula BMW, Cupra's, Porsche and Cleo's. Formula Ford dropped but no mention of Legends. I assume 2 in 2 out so Legends on Motors TV no more Formula Fords to join F3 and GT's. Havn't seen any info on Legends..... anyone know anything?
