I have a few questions regarding tyres for my xr2. 1) Does anyone know what tyres the xr2's will be using for the coming season and how likely will it be the same ones as last year? 2) Where can i purchase a couple of sets for pre-season testing? 3) How much are they? 4) Roughly how many will i need for the season? Thanks, Marc.

Hi Marc, 1. The tyres will be the Kumho 175/60 R13 Ecsta V700 K9A compound. I am pretty sure they will be the same this year as we only changed the compound the other year and they now perform much better. 2. Redpath tyres are the main supplier. I haven't got their number handy but you'll find it on the internet. If you need tyres purely for pre-season testing, why not try Iain Cowie as we have lots of part used tyres that he may sell cheap (I need mine for the same reason I'm afraid). I think Anthony Ford and Davie Graham have some of the old compound for sale which would be ideal for testing - see for sale section. 3. They rocked in at about 75 quid each last year - they last a lot longer than the old compound which were over 90 quid a pop!!! 4. Largely depends on how much testing you are planning to do. I didn't do any testing last year and got through the season on 10 tyres. Although I did miss the last race meeting due to unforseen circumstances - i.e., John Findlay didn't see me!!! Any questions give me a shout - there is more detailed costing and stuff on my site if you need further info. Cheers, Nick www.ns-r.co.uk

Just been on the phone to redpath tyres trying to get some new tyres. For some reason the woman wasn't prepared to sell me two sets of new tyres. Does anyone know if there is a limit to the amount of tyres you are allowed to purchase in one season/per race weekend/at one time? She kept saying that there were regulations about how many tyres could be purchased and you were only allowed to buy one new front and one new rear or something. I have checked the 2004 regs and nothing is mentioned about this! I desperately need new tyres for the next test session as my current set are well past it!!!!!

I've never heard of this before! Best person to clarify is Willie Grieg (chief eligibility scrutineer). His contact details should be on the SMRC web site. He will definitely know of any limitations to the number of tyres allowed, but I suspect that the woman at Redpath Tyres is incorrect ....
