Scottish Motor Racing and Drivers book, hey david yes your right, the book is far more valuable unsigned, i still have plenty of them if anyone would like to read about our countrys ilustrious history in motorsports cheers lance gauld www.smrh.co.ukWe have one of these. Andrew won it as part of one of his prizes. It certainly is a good book.. Very interesting although given all my own early involvement with motorsport was at Oulton Pk I'm afraid I don't recognise many of the names.

very interesting thread Richard and one without any dummies being spat out LOL
having only watched scottish club motorsport for a couple of years it is always interesting to find out about the old days
but and yeah there is a but, you havent been to the stockies at central park, great night out used to go a lot either dossing at my mates in larbert or driving back home getting back in the wee hours, the racing is interesting and never boring, can smell the suppers out of the greasy chippy on the way out of cowdie thinking about it

I've never been to Cowdenbeath, well the racewall anyway. Our team "bodyman"/mechanic is from Cowdenbeath and I bought my new toy there too! You may see it out sometime in the Historics with Dad driving, I am not promising any fireworks, probably trundling round at the back. Hot engines are too expensive to buy nowadays.

Racing is more than Legends, Formula Fords, XR2s and Minis. It is also a hell of alot better than we see today in our classes, where it seems to be how big your chequebook is compared to your talent. I could remortgage the house from under Mum and Dad's noses and buy a Zonda and show how fast it can go.
We won't, we are the main stays of the SMRC and will fight for the man who works out of his lock-up. Lotus, Cooper, Brabham and McLaren all started from megre beginnings, they didn't buy quick cars and start winning. Why should that be what our racing has become?

Heinicke i think your like me - born in the wrong era - id of loved to have been around in the days of loutus jim clark. 1 it would have been easier to be a racing driver 2. you didnt just race one thing 3. it was proper racing.

Craig, I've been in it since I was 18 months old! Carried into my 1st race, living legends were walking round the paddock when I was in my pushchair, I eventually started having great insights to their racing lives and cars, when I could talk!

Thats the same age as me! Just shows you... Two different lives... Here I am just toiling away in life not really getting anywhere. And look at you, high flyer mixing it with all these legends. Such a history, knowledge and established racing career. Lifes not fair.

Its a case of being born into it, Dad was a car enthusiast when he was growing up, he wanted to be a racing driver but the famous line from my Grandad was "you know what happend to Von Tripps!" That was that! Until Dad could afford it when he bought a standard Midget and decided to go racing with it.
His first race ever at Ingliston, the car was so slow he was lapped by the entire field twice, at the end of the race he got a bigger cheer than the winners did! About 2 or 3 months later, a guy in a Mini van drove out in front of me in my booster seat and Dad, he had an option where to hit him, he went for the engine. He said the best noise he heard was me screaming and crying to prove I was still alive. The car was gone! Since then MGB, Mallock, Tiga/Stratos thing, Mallock, FIA MGB, Mallock and MGA, Rover Special and Austin 7 in the historics. He did have other hobbies that were put on the back burner after he started racing. Remember Dave, I don't have a job, I am "too ill" to work. I do have a car design degree but since the car industry is on the down turn I doubt I'll ever get a decent job in the industry! I am jealous of anyone who can drive at the moment.
I need some calmness in my life so I can settle down and start racing again!

I did and very well you looked considering the illness that you had. How are you keeping? Are you allowed to drive yet? Are you still car designing? Hows the latest "Carr" project?

Thanks Graham, I feel OK at the moment, I am undergoing chemo therapy every 6 weeks, my next intraveinous treatment will be on the 21st. I am still working on my Masters project. I can't drive until my 1st unchanged scan.
