Lance of course has a Legend! Graham is a legend.
I've read Dad's copy more times than he has, even though I bought it for him! It is a fantastic book!

We met Lawrence at the SMRC's 50th and he seemed distant about racing and said about his sailing.
Dad met Alasdair Cunningham at the Halbeath Services, he recognised the number plate, he said he still wants to race again, the Manta is just gathering dust.

I was definetly born in the wrong era
I bet a lot of people who have commented on this thread know my grandad from the inglston days and earlier knockhill years 80'sto early 90'smaybe - Hes told me many storys about motor racing through the 50's60's70s 80s 90s one story that stands out was a friend he helped in formula ford who eventully took a formula ford chassis put a v8 in it (not sure if it was an f1 engine or dfv) added f1 tyres and ran it in a libre class it was called the fireball special. forgottin the persons name will ask my papa next time i speak to him.

Craig, I remember something called a Fireball 5000 and it was driven by Andrew Goodfellow who I think came from the Falkirk area. Looked like a bit of a homemade thing with a 5 litre Chevy(??) in the back!
His son Scott races a Terrier in the Classic Sports races when he can get it to run!
In 1972, on the way to the British GP, I sat next to a woman on the London bus and it turned out she was Andrew's mum! Small world...
Also, at the SMRC 50th dinner, Helen and I were sat next to Andrew and Scott and had a good reminisce!

You've told me all I need to know about Bryce GPM! I've looked at the article about him in the book, he has an immense talent for racing .
Doug Niven, wonder where he is?
Keith Bowmaker, he is a national legend from Chopwell, he raced SuperSaloons, a Lola Sports 2000 and eventually a Mallock before he retired, Dad was up against him for the 90' Sportscar John Nicolson Trophy, Dad won. I didn't realise how "big" Keith was when he was our rival. Suppose some don't know what Dad has done over the years.
Our old friend Walter Robertson he is also a legend. DFV VW.

I know the people that do the programs for the race days have a lot to do as it is, but perhaps if someone provided the appropriate info, there could be a couple of paragraphs put in, so people can learn the history of past members of the SMRC. Or maybe somebody like you Heinkle if you have time, could put a little post on the forum for members that are interested in the history of the club...........

I have all the time in the world at the moment but I am only good for 25 years in the club, maybe slightly more. Maybe Lance or Graham Gauld could do something? Graham is a journalist and lives in France or Switzerland so he understandably he won't write anything without being paid.
Giggsy, Heinicke please. It is my Grandad's born surname before he was adopted.

Well Richard - we finally seem to have found a home for you and your historical knowledge. Unlike this threads name, I certainly wouldn't call this a rant!
Afraid my only historic motor sport memories are of sitting in the stand at Cowdenbeath in the mid 80s watching the stock cars (Vic Russell and others in the Superstoxs) and having to put your hand over your tea/cofee everytime the main pack went past as the noise/turbulence would cause a light cloud of dust to fall down from the rickety stand roof!

Ahhh! Cowdenbeath, I really want to go there sometime. Dad told me he went a few times when he was younger. 26 years of being a Fifer and never gone to Racewall, I am ashamed! One of our mechanics used to help to run Billy Bonner from Ballingry in the National Hot Rods, I sold an engine to him and my old barber's husband used to race National Stock cars too. Malcolm Chesher, is an unofficial member of our team too, he is an ex-stock car champ and also cousin to both our senior race mechanics and uncle to Andrew that races in Formula Fords.
I am glad you don't see this as a rant!

Any more?
Does anyone know what Eric Paterson is doing now? I know he was son and heir to Basil Patersons in Edinburgh.
He had his legs smashed to pieces in a clubmans race at Ingliston but he did come back and raced a while longer. We were on holiday the day that it happened, we got 2nd hand accounts from spectators and other drivers. He was another one of these guys like Walter Robertson and Keith Bowmaker, they were involved in national level super saloon racing.
