Anyone have a calibrated water temp gauge in their XR2, ST, etc.? What sort of temperature does it get up to during a race?

Thanks Andrew.
What's the rev limit on an XR2 - 6,500?

6300 if youve got a really well built one. I was always under the impression that at over 6300 it would start mashing valves but i had a faulty rev meter and my engine did 3 races reaching about 6500-6600 quite often where it just stopped and sounded a bit rattly but survived without damage But really theres no power over 6000

Interesting. Reason I'm asking is Iain took my XR2 out last thing on Sunday to check things over and I recorded it. I've been doing some comparisons between my footage and yours You are definitely changing from 2nd to 3rd at a significantly higher (pitch) engine note than Iain was. But the tacho in my car was reading 6K so I'm wondering if it's a bit out - it's just the original tacho. By the way. In-car footage looks SO much better in 16:9 widescreen!

Well I was changing at 6200 all day on the advice of Iain. It was pretty well screaming but then I've been driving diesels for a few years now on the road... So come on Mike, are you going to share it with us ?

Mike - just get Iain or Cameron to check the tacho using a timing light.. Takes a couple of minutes.

So come on Mike, are you going to share it with us ? It's actually pretty dull stuff. Most of my interest was taken by the temperature gauges, the engine performance (it sounds rough as <naughty word>) and working out which gearbox was in it (short 3rd version). Plus, at present the 12 or so minutes of footage is a rather unwieldly 2.8 gigabytes. I may reformat and upload it - just to see whether 16:9 reduces the detail too much - and if I do I'll let everyone know.

What camera are you using? JVC GR-D720 Mini DV Camcorder Had £85 worth of Amazon Vouchers so it only cost me net £50. The mounting from Demon Tweeks cost me £100 though. Camera doesn't come with a Firewire cable but they are only £15 out of John Lewis. Used Pinnacle Studio to capture as Windows Movie Maker and Nero wouldn't capture it in anything other than 4:3.
