... till the ads come back. Does anyone out there want to cough up a fiver for another month without them, or will we be back to the complaints again soon? If you don't have Paypal, you can always just send a fiver to me and KF, and we can put it up for you though KF's account (can you see I'm not wanting the ads back? )

GR,
I don't have any problem in ponying up some cash to keep this (great) site up and running. In the first instance, however, I do not think you and KF should have to put your necks on the line for the site. From my perspective, a few ads are somethng we might have to put up with. I do however, probably find them as much of a pain as anyone else. As a gesture of good faith, tell me what I need to do to get rid of the ads for a month and I will do it. Perhaps we should find out what everyone else thinks about it and then we can see where we go from here.

In the long-term, the only thing we can do is keep paying up, basically, although if this place gets more popular, and looks likely to be a long-term thing (like, running for several years), I may consider finding the £160 required to buy a vBulletin licence, and set up a new forum using that, which would stay ad-free. The downside to that being the problem Motorsport Forums keep encountering, which is finding an affordable server which doesn't crash under the weight of the traffic... I'm not sure how much space is required for a forum, but I suspect my ISP won't appreciate me sticking one on the webspace I'm currently using for the site (and a couple of other sites), so it still wouldn't be free.... Basically it's ads or paying up, whatever happens As for paying in the meantime, it's basically roughly £5 (it's in dollars, but that's what it translates to), which can be paid via Paypal using a credit card by clicking on the "Make a Donation" button at the bottom of each page here, or else if you PM myself or KF, we'll give you our address so you can send £5 to us that way (after the season starts, we can just collect cash at the races, if anyone wants to help out I'm not too bothered about the ads myself, being on a broadband connection, but people on 56K would have trouble with it... plus Charlie mentioned one of the ads was trying to force his computer to download a dialler for a premium rate phoneline - that is something I do not like, and would prefer to keep off this site altogether, even if the forum is technically different to the rest of the website. The rest of the site will be fine, whether the forum's ad-free or not, just a lot of people don't like the ads, so I figured it'll keep the peace better to be rid of them
