He's the man we've been waiting for. I remember watching a GP2 race where he dropped down to near last and came through for an unbelievable 2nd place, overtaking at will anyone in his way. F1 just got interesting again!!
What a way to start, round the outside of 2 cars on the first corner. I'm not going to get ahead of myself and start comparing him to the greats just yet, but I am excited that we finally have someone who could possibly upset the monotone drone that is Kimi. Poor Jenson must be gutted that he has to watch from an uncompetitive car. Be great to see those 2 as teammates! ;D

Kimi is a bit monotone in interviews but who cares, he is there to drive and this year he is going to shine. He has finally got a great car underneath him. Kimi will be world champion this year no doubt. Hamilton did great for his first race, pity he didnt beat Alonso. I really hope he outclasses him this year.

Hamilton is clearly a very talented young man but he's a bit of an automaton - jog, jog, health drink, 5 hours of press-ups, none of that partying stuff Kimi gets up to, jog - all business basically. Still, that didn't stop Mansell getting the WC so I'm sure he'll do well!
Shame the race was pretty dull... still Melbourne's usually only much good for bizarre crash-strewn mechanical failure races... guess we'll see if there's some interest in the next race.

Seem to have perfected my GP watching technique using my Virgin Media hard drive recorder. Watch the first 10 laps or so, then fast forward at 12x speed keeping an eye out for any offs, passing manoeuvres or the start of the 1st or 2nd pit stop periods (prob watch around 5 laps at this time). This seems to be enough to follow the general strategy of the race, but in a much shorter time!
Thought Hamilton was very impressive, though still early days.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think the 2 tyre type rule is a bit artificial, forcing everyone to have a stint on a non-optimal tyre?

Yeah .... and keep the same tyres on whether it's wet or dry... That would learn them ;D

I can't wait for the open day - the McLaren headquarters is about a 5 minute walk from my apartment! Hope they let me have a go (Ahem!) Nick.

haha - well I suppose you could say that he hasn't won in XR2s...! He's a quality act though - I remember watching him in the BTCC supports. Yep, new toy is very nice - I took the second car out on the road and they go pretty well...the roll cage will be finished this week then it's off for painting... Nick.

When's your first race and where?

The race was pretty much the standard F1 processional affair we've come to expect, but the new talent impressive. Was disappointed that Lewis didn't beat Alonso, but I really didn't expect that to happen first time out.
Hopefully we'll see him put a few more experienced noses out of joint this season. He may be 'manufactured', but I think there's a passion in there, he genuine looked happy.
Cheers Baz
