The 2004 Legends World Finals took place 11th,12th and 13th November, at Infineon Raceway (formerly Searspoint) in California and the four UK drivers taking part had mixed fortunes.
In the "Pro" Division Jamie Clarke, 2003 Scottish Champion and third in the 2004 National Championship, came in 3rd. In the same Division the 2004 National Champion, Oli Poyser, secured 6th place. Jamie had qualified in second place on the front row of the grid (they don’t reverse grids at the finals) and was taken off on the first lap relegating him about a quarter of a lap behind the field when he got going again - a fine performance indeed.
In the ‘Masters’ (Old Man’s!) Division Jamie’s Dad, Jim Clarke, got an excellent 4th place (he was 5th in 2003) having started from a lowly 22nd position with engine problems in the heats. Sadly the fourth member Peter Morton, runner-up in the 2004 National Championship, crashed out.
Thanks to Gerard McCosh for keeping us up to date and well done to the small entry from UK. The past two years it has been wet so they moved the championship back a week for drier weather ( doesn't quite fit the mental picture I have of sunny California! )
From what I saw on the web cams it was wet for Thursday but dry and sunny for the Friday, Saturday. Guess thats why so many of UK racers gave it a miss as it would rule out their wet weather advantage!
