Barry that is the easy answer but why are they faster? Why they are allowed to do it is also worth thinking about a little more.
I am being pedantic here because I had never thought about it before until a former champion suggested the reason there was so much corner cutting at certain places was due to the initial bad design. After thinking about his reasoning I had to agree with his thoughts.
There is no great re-design required and no great fault in the fact that something needs to be done because all circuits get some re-alignments from time to time in an effort to improve them. I am pretty sure the soft ground issue, shown up by the Discovery getting stuck, will also need looking into. Image going upside down there in a single seater.
Knockhill needs to keep improving or the major series will not come back.

The point I was trying to make has been missed. Rather than try and explain things further, can those who disagree with me tell me why the Pros spend so much time off the circuit to get a quick lap? Once we have established the reason they take these lines then perhaps we can go further and work out why the layout at a couple of corners is wrong. "So much time", as in, they cut the chicane? I didnt see a problem anywhere else, they took some liberties at MacIntyres when they could but thats blindingly obvious they would. Fairly tight corner, if you can open it up, you will. If you managed to park a single seater upside down there, realistically you'd have had to go over the tyres from the Leslies side and clear the banking to land in the marsh. In which case, you're already in a world of trouble. But that notwithstanding, I very much doubt it would sink in to the level you'd risk suffocation which is what I'm guessing you're hinting at. As for this former champion. Are they the new Stig hence you cant name them? You sound a hell of a lot like someone who used to post on pistonheads but could never name their great racing father whose opinions we were all expected to revere.

anywhooo, back to the coming weekend ;D Timetable up on the spangly new SMRC website (http://www.smrc-uk.com/season/timetable.html). Early alarm clock as it is our turn (XR2 and STs) to sweep the track first. Anyone got their entry packs yet? Mine is normally a day later than most due the posties horse getting stuck on the hills

Hmm, I would have thought a timetable would have times on it I presume an 8.30 start for XR2's, I'm looking forward to that enormously! Still, early finish an for once might get to see some racing. Actually (back on the touring car subject) that's the first weekend in ages I've been along as a spectator, very enjoyable. Baz

I thought us Fiestas had been out 1st before this season? Also wish the SMRC would double check the points pages, ST cup appears to be Formula Ford standings.

My two pennys-worth. I agree that all racing should have the same regulations - if anything, it is easier to police the major series as they have many more observers, cameras etc, but as we know, it doesnt work like that. At the end of the day, you have to race to whatever your championship (i.e., SMRC) regulations state. Putting in big bollards etc is a big no-no as it can cause big accidents purely by someone being out of control. I'm not sure you can blame the circuit layout too much to be honest in my opinion. For example, if you look at Snetterton and Cadwell (spring to mind), there are places where you can 'corner cut'. I remember in 2005 (wow - that was 5 years ago!!!) Ross Marshall got his time disallowed and a penalty for hitting a floppy at Cadwell - harsh, but they warned us in the drivers briefing beforehand. I VERY nearly lost my race win at Snetterton due to the Russell Chicane - I had Sandy (Forrest) glued to my bumper and fair play to him, he told the stewards they couldn't really penalize me as he took exactly the same lines. Result stood. Anyway, if you do want to race off the black stuff, just follow Charlie! Nick www.nicksandersonracing.com

Well I must be the first person home, showered and on the internet so I'll start things off (still not had my tea though ) Firstly, and most importantly, I hope all the drivers caught up in the 3 nasty incidents we had today are doing okay. Not sure what happened in the Legends second race but it sounded like quite a big accident. We had a fairly quiet day down at McIntyre's today with some good racing when the track dried up a bit. Pity about all of the gear box oil that was covering all the way down to Butchers though. We cleaned it up as best would could but it's no easy task when the track is wet as it just seems to spread all over the place. Had a 'panic' moment when I spotted a Legend wheel heading towards the spectator area on the outside of Duffus but thankfull the catch fence caught it. Right, I'm off to make my tea now and watch X-Factor

Well that was mental. Every so often Legends seem to have one of "those" meetings and the pileup at the start of the second race was a pretty nasty one. Ali Gauld's ok in case you haven't heard - after they cut him out of the wreckage and took him to hospital the was found to only have bad bruising to the lower back, so the situation was all scarily familiar to me. The cossie on cossie action was violent too.

Had a 'panic' moment when I spotted a Legend wheel heading towards the spectator area on the outside of Duffus but thankfull the catch fence caught it. As far as the legends accidents go, the pileup at the start of the second race was apparently caused by someone spinning across the field just after the race start. Ali Gauld's car spun into the path of Andrew Donald's who hit him so hard he took off and nose dived into the road. Andrew was fine while I mentioned Ali's condition above. The accident after the restart saw someone turn Colin Atkinson into Aly Hunter who was spat off the road before Duffus where he dug in and rolled (it was his wheel that came towards us on the hill but it was of more danger to the cars who all managed to miss it when it came back on the track) - Aly was fine.

glad Ali is okay, he paid us a visit at 6 earlier on
we had quite a busy day at clarks with a few folk sampling the delights of our gravel traps, not all had much choice in the matter though. Great work as usual from the squad, weather was yukky, track was slippy but the banter was 1st class
thanks to Carol Brown for taking my furry friends Belinda Beaver out in the mini, no doubt pix will appear on facebook soon
