Alan Gow: I am currently working on the 2004 calendar and there is a chance that Knockhill could return, subject to a few important factors. But we will have to wait and see what happens.
I like Knockhill.......I instigated putting it on the BTCC calendar so many years ago, so if there is an opportunity to return one day then I will also be happy.
No doubt those "important factors" include a 7 figure sum...but at least he is thinking about it!
Did anyone else see the other announcement? ETCC cars will be allowed next year opening the BTCC up to a possible 10 manufacturers...

ETCC Cars? Great news!! Those cars look like real touring cars - can't wait to see some of them over here Not bad news on the Knockhill front, either - we'll have to see exactly what those factors are, but at least it's clear that Gow likes the place, anyway (unlike Mr West, who frankly I think has just been looking for an excuse to drop Knockhill ever since he took over) Hopefully we'll get it back soon - I wasn't so bothered about it not coming this year, but now the boss is back in charge, it'll get good again soon

Yeh but they're slow and boring. Alan Gow says in that news story (on http://www.tocatour.co.uk) the first thing he did when he took up the job a week ago on Thursday was phone the manufacturers to see what they thought.. Not one team in the series at the moment had any objections either..
Oh, and I think West was trying to make it more commerically viable - ie race at brands for the 10 rounds.. !

Yeh but they're slow and boring. Could say the same about the current BTCC cars Got the feeling I'll always think Super Touring was the best, tbh, but the ETCC cars *look* the part, so I'd rather have them than the current cars, even if they aren't so good as the old days

Could say the same about the current BTCC cars [/img]
Exactly... we demand cars that actually look like Touring cars - not like the current cheese wedge and jelly mould shapes in the BTCC!

I'll have you know around a lap of the Donington GP circuit last year, it was a well known fact BTCT cars were 1/10th second faster than the leading ETCC cars! So there!!! Yes ETCC cars may "look" like Super Tourers (because there's 3 series and 156's in there i presume) but before 1991 people would have laughed at the thought of there being nothing but 4 doors in a Touring Car series!!!! Look through the 32 years of the championship before that, there were Mini's, Capri's, Esccorts, Sierras, big chevy's etc etc not many were 4 door!! (not even the Cortina AFAIK!!)

Ah, but even then they looked like Touring Cars even if they weren't 4 doors! The current bunch are what Americans would call Riced-up boy racer mobiles that came straight from boy-racer heaven.

Americans! What do they know about Touring Cars!? All they know what to do is go roundy roundy all day long... The new ETCC allowed in BTCC car rules have already attracted Ford to a possible entry, as they say that now they can build a car that can be raced all over Europe the BTCC and ETCC are much more appealing now. Also, we're lucky the motorsport guy at Ford now is new to the job so could be willing to try out the BTCC. He also mentions they would like to develop a racing diesel engine... Doesn't say which car would be used but there was this same rumour last year which said a Focus TDCi would be used from 2004 on..
