I was quite sad to see on todays World bike race there was a terrible accident, bike all over the place after looks like going hard into a wall, rider lying in terrible possition not moving in the middle of the track!
The marshalls used a split stretcher to lift the rider from the track to the side!
This was the only image you seen of the crash then they just went back to the racing without mentioning it!
It was announced at the end of the race that the rider has serious brain, neck and back injuries and is sadly fighting for his life!
I personally think this is shocking, if it had been a car accident at any level of the sport the race would have been stopped immediatly and top class doctors would have been on the scene within minutes!
Instead the guy was rushed off the track as quick as possible to let the racing continue probably adding to his injuries!
Rant over, I really hope the guy is ok and recovers well!
Dave.

Yup, saw a bit of that this morning whilst idly looking at the Eurosport schedule to see when the FIA GTs and Touring Cars were on (not even slightly interested in bikes myself) and saw the shot of the bike in several pieces and the marshalls unceremoniously dumping the poor guy on the stretcher to get him off the track - can't believe they didn't stop the race in that situation, surely it's not a good idea to move someone as badly injured as that at all? Hope he recovers.

That is truly sickening. Especially these days when the world is so advanced. Just look at how many incidents there's been today, espcially F1 in Brazil. Cars are much safer but the medics dealt with Alonso with no troubles I hope the motorcyclist recovers soon

I guess that bikes have a lot more of a macho culture than car racing. The likelyhood of serious injury or death seems to be half the point rather than an unfortunate possibility which should be guarded against like in car racing (mostly).
Wish I could show the appropriate clip of this and of some of the road smashes involving motorbikes I was shown at Uni. to a mate of mine who seems hell bent on getting a bike.
Also glad they don't run combined bike/car meetings any more at KH. I'd rather not be there when they have to wheel out the meat wagon....

I haven't seen the clip but it sounds pretty bad. Glad that Alonso is OK - that was also an accident that should have been avoided.
The combined meetings at KH were stopped due to the bikes being unable to race after we put "marbles" down on the track - too dangerous.
The only solution was to let the bikes qualify and race before we went out which wasn't really very good for the bikers (although it meant we got a lie-in!)

"Marbles" as in small bits of rubber, not "marbles" as in childs toy!

Didn't think that we had enough money up here to run the sort of sticky slicks that generate marbles.... Well not since the XRs stopped runing on Kumhos

Dave - we are still running on Kumhos We just changed to a better compound last season due to going through so many tyres...

Sorry, got the wrong end of the stick. I thought there was some discussion of moving to Yokos at one point... Can I plead a bad case of big-project-at-work-itis last winter..?

You are correct Dave - there were discussions between all the drivers and the SMRC about using Yokos but it was felt that it would be only fair to offer Kumho to improve their tyres first after supporting the championships for 6 years.
They came up with a cheaper, longer lasting tyre with the practically the same amount of grip so fair enough...

I thought you'd lost yours years ago! Are you marshalling on Sunday? If so, I'll see you around and I'm sure we'll be having a couple of beers after the XR2 race if you can make it (I haven't seen the timetable yet but we are usually towards the end). Cheers.

Hey everyone, Unfortunately Daijiro Kato, the rider invovled in this incident, died yesterday. Thoughts to his family and friends at this time. Can't help wondering if a more appropriate response from the authorities invovled may have saved this talented young riders life....... Jaffa6
