Who else thought last night's Mini and SMRC programmes were very well done ? Interviews with Craig Noble and then Aly Hunter I thought were great, gives a lot of information for potential drivers. The camera views caught of the legends crash was a good insight to what happened - big ouch !

Blair,
I have to disagree, I thought the racing was good but the coverage / production was poor. Just my opinion but I didn't think it was up to much. There were loads of times the cameras were still trying to decide how much to zoom in or pan out when the cars were on the start line or screaming past.
I did think they handled the legends crash well and I do like the commentator but, to me, it looks like it has been put together on a shoe string.
What do others think ?

John, I do agree with you slightly - on the basis compared to last year's AMG coverage it doesn't have as high a quality feel about it.
However we do get more racing shown and in the context of this years programmes I thought last nights (and hopefully next weeks too) was pretty good.

I completely agree John.
Too many times this year all you see are cars going fast around Knockhill, they miss most overtaking and lead changes. I lost count of the number of times I've been left wondering how someone took the lead or someone lost it.
If we have the same company next year I'm going to recommend that the XR2's pull out. Each series was supposed to have equal time on the show with an extended feature on one particular championship each show. This is certainly not happening this year.
I hope we go back to AMG next year. Just compare their coverage of the rallying and the English Ford Fiesta series etc.. They also seem more able to place the shows with the broadcasters. We don't seem to get as much exposure with AJK Productions.

Must be my age I guess, but I haven't been able to make any sense of when any of the programmes are being shown. Haven't seen any of them at all this year. Does anyone have a link to an accurate listing of when the prog's are being shown on CH5??

DC Don't make me laugh, I've checked and set my Freeview to record programs on CH5 linked to the program guide and with start/finish time adjustments on and still got the wrong program. CH5 overnight schedules seem to change by the minute and don't get updated on their program guide or text pages

I would second DC's request for someone to help us Luddites catch some of the action! I even have Sky+ so once I find it once that should be me sorted......

Well said John and Charlie...
I don't really want to get started on this but I agree completely with both of you.
Last night's coverage of the Minis had us shouting at the TV because of the "inaccuracies and omissions" although it wasn't quite as bad as the coverage of Croft where I nearly threw a brick through the screen !!

I like the idea of the features on things, the interview with Aly Hunter was well done, explaining the concept of Legends and even showing clips of the grid draw etc. But the picture and sound quality was terrible, looked like it'd been done on a camcorder frankly As for the races themselves, can't help but notice the Duffus camera missed the Legends crash entirely, and it was more luck then anything else that they happened to have cameras on 2 of the cars most involved, one of which had a grandstand view of it unfolding. Looked spectacular, but I think there was a lot of luck involved. Other incidents do indeed get missed entirely, and it all has relatively poor picture quality - I'm honestly not convinced this is going to sell the SMRC racing to many people who aren't already fans, because it just looks like a home movie. It's not all bad, there's a lot of good ideas behind it, but I've got to say I preferred last year's coverage.

We don't seem to get as much exposure with AJK Productions. Perhaps best to get someone from the SMRC speak to the production company. For things like changes of the lead in the race? - I'm sure if there was footage it would be included. Being a cameraman can't be easy so I'm sure they can only use footage that they have. I mean it's not like the BTCC where there's a TV truck with a producer who can tell the cameramen which battle in the race they should focus on. Alternatively; get four cameras stuck at the piece of track Michael Booth is taking pictures from!
