Yes, Muller's contact with Chilton would have been reported back to race control. The observers normally report any contact no matter how small. We had 2 observers on duty at chicane last weekend both of whom are.... how shall I put it.... pernickety! Chilton was quite OK about when I was talking to him after the race but am sure he wasn't too chuffed immediately after it happened! He even asked if he looked quick out there!
The 2 cars that went the wrong side of the poles completely were originally attempting to go through the chicane side by side which doesn't normally work so they took a more scenic route...
If anyone feels that the SMRC racers are treated differently when it comes to floppy bashing, they should raise the matter with the clerk of the course as it's he who tells us what the rules are on the day! Remember at the F3 meeting we were told not to use them at all!
Cheers David

In case anyone missed the TV coverage or you want the highlights on your computer, theres a 7 minute video of the best bits available here: tbk.fameflame.dk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12551I'd suggest grabbing it quick as the videos on that forum usually aren't up for long.

I suppose each Clerk of the course has to make a stand about corner cutting. However, I would like to see the wall of tyres removed at the chicane. A head on with these could be very dangerous both to car and driver, especially in the heat of racing. a slight punt in to them and it is goodnight.

Remember at the F3 meeting we were told not to use them at all! Out of interest..... at club meetings are your instructions the same at each meeting? It is my observation that at some meetings this rule is strictly enforced and at other meetings they let it go (there hasn't been a problem for a few meetings). I refuse to believe that the driving actually changes from meeting to meeting so I'm guessing that the observers always report it and at some meetings the clerk chooses to act and at others he doesn't. I think there has been a reluctant acceptance by the club that if visiting clubs aren't enforcing it to the letter, they will follow suit. To me this seems sensible given the unique nature of the corner and visibility levels leading into it.

Normally, yes... it can sometimes depend on the leniency or harshness of the observer on the post as to what gets reported back. It tends to be the BARC or BRSCC organised meetings where things differ such as the F3s which I mentioned earlier where the floppies were absent. For the BTCC, I think they were told to report anyone who removed any but nothing appeared to happen to any of the culprits! As for the mini tyre wall, I suppose it can be dangerous but it is very effective at stopping corner cutting! We collected about 20 mirrors from cars clipping it last weekend but only one hit it with any force (James Kaye, who smashed his wing on it in qualifying).
Bear in mind, I don't have a say in how the corner cutting is legislated for.... it's all up to the clerks and observers! I just keep putting them back in the holes.. given a break in traffic!

Photos now online - mostly paddock shots, as KF and I were both there more as spectators than to work for the site this time out, but there's still a few racing pictures as well

I absolutely love the Touring Cars!!! I was there both days, should have plenty of pictures from Saturday! Incase anyone aint heard, Anthony Reid has been handed a fine and a suspended one race ban for his move on Tom Chilton at the hairpin in Race 2 a tad unfair if you ask me!
