Straight from the SMRC website.. As a hopeful 2012 Fiesta competitor there seems to be a good spread of dates, even the away round for Fiestas is in the spare month we're not at Knockhill. 1 round a month is good, every pay packet then! Knockhill SMRC meetings (all Scottish Championships): •8 April 2012 •5 / 6 May 2012 •21st / 22nd July 2012 •12 August 2012 •9 September 2012 •7 October 2012 Scottish Championship Away Rounds: •19 / 20 May 2012 - Croft - Saloons and Sportscars (will be in NSSCC races) •2 June 2012 (Saturday) - Oulton Park - Minis, Classics, Legends •2 / 3 June 2012 - Cadwell Park - Fiestas •23 / 24 June 2012 - Angelsey - Legends •30 June 2012 - Kirkistown - Classics •Minis should have a second venue (to be confirmed) Other car race events at Knockhill: •19 / 20 May 2012 - Speedfair - KMSC •10 June 2012 - Live Events (track attack sprint, drifting etc) •25 / 26 August 2012 - BTCC - BARC •28 October 2012 - KMSC

Looks good, although a shame it's only the Fiestas going to Cadwell - the last two years when there's been 2-3 SMRC series have made it well worth the journeyovernight hotel cost for me to go, was hoping for the same again! Great track though, it's the nearest I've found down here to Knockhill's atmosphere, really like going there

so when are the ma5da's coming as I will want to get taht weekend off work, plus now with 3 car race weekends what about putting electric hookups in for the marshals, did suggest it to rory butcher at the funday, cost £200 in materials to provide a dozen 6amp points for us. remember without the orange army there wouldnt be any racing

Have heard KH needs a small power station to keep it going as it is on the leccy!
No idea on the MX5's or if they are coming at all? Presumably though thats what one of those weekend's is for. Other weekend may be a Saturday afternoon, Sunday all day affair. Noticed none of them are sole Saturday meetings in 2012.
There are going to be some changes to the Fiesta championship in 2012, all cars are to run Yokohama tyres and the grid is now formed solely on qualifying times - no split grid for ST's and no delay.. might prove interesting?!
The newer Fiesta Zetec S (Model year 2009 on) will also be permitted in the championship.

common sense from chris edwards re the fiestas, why not allow the mark 3 si and zetec in, cant see anyone building new models as the ST's havent exactly been a success
regarding leccy, I advised IF and Rory about our consumption as during the day it would be under 1 amp purely for battery charging and fridges and it would only be in the evening that we would pull any power for geating etc and that is when there is no track usage, they installed mains 16 amp points in the pits this year so there is capacity

Good news on the Fiesta's, and the most sensible thing I've heard in years. Still a few things to sort out I think. The distinct lack of driver input and communication is a concern and I think in part why the series has dwindled. One email is a start, but we need a lot more. If you look at the most successful Scottish series they have a lot more going on behind the scenes.

Barry couldn't agree more with you on the whole setup of the series & communication points.
I'm glad we're getting a mixed grid, this to me was one part that was vital to have happen if there's to be Fiesta's for years to come in Scotland. Deciding to build an ST was a bit of a gamble on my part that still hasn't fully paid off yet, as up till this year I've always felt we're viewed as a bit of a joker type of race, with the delayed start etc...
I guess next season will prove it one way or the other but I think the tyre issue may be one of these can't see the wood for the trees issues. If the Yoko's chew up faster then it could end up being more expensive!

That had crossed my mind too Blair - I think the minis have a rule where they have to be 1.6mm miniumum? Which is why you see lots of A048's at Wheels Around which are still usable. Perfect for track days.
Im sure they will do 3-4 race weekends?
Depends how you want to play things though, people reckon you need a new set of slicks for the front every 1-2 race weekends to get them at their best. Compare 2 A048s to 2 Slicks every 1-2 weekends and the price difference is massive.
I think its also a good move for having races at Knockhill. On some days (most days at KH) its so cold its hard to get heat in the slicks but its not wet enough for wets. Like that last round. When I did the spannering with the National Fiestas for 2 years - almost without fail I was in a t-shirt every race weekend.

Fiesta's are going to have to have 1.6mm tread across the tyre too. Although looking at the state of some of the tyres on XR2's this year I'm not sure if thats fully enforced on cars that aren't always winning or on the podium!
The climate point up here you make - I didn't see my wet's used till September this year. The weather at KH was really good this year and pretty warm every dry day. But those days that started out wet and dried and that's where it's tricky with the slicks/wet's combo.
You're right on how things are played out. I know down south the quick guys are putting new fronts on each weekend - because it's so competitive. That's something we tried to avoid doing at KH amongst ourselves.. I got through the year using 4 new slicks which I thought was pretty good.

Yeah you can avoid throwing new tyres at the cars just now, but you know what happens as it gets competitive. Even so you need 4 slicks and 4 wets minimum at 1200 quid just now, the Yoko's are 115 a pop, so you'll get 10 tyres plus change from that amount, they do all weathers and I'd think the wear will be only marginally more than on Mini's, so your ten tyres will probably go quite a way. Dunno how the extra weight and power of the ST's will affect the tyres, but the Mini's have a surprising amount of grip!

Tread depth isn't an issue - performance will have died well before you get the chance to wear them down that much.

I understand why SMRC have gone with yoko's but the nationals will still be on dunlops so makes it a bit more expensive for anyone thinking of doing both....
Oh and btw, my ST is still for sale, make me an offer I won't be hard to deal with...

My feelings have always been that if you can afford to race both down south and in the SMRC then the extra cost for some rims and tyres is unlikely to be a big deal. I know that's a sweeping generalisation, but there you go.

Baz - technically I agree but when your looking at 150 GBP plus per tyre, it starts getting expensive.
ICR and NSR (us) have been involved in STs since they started and have been involved in a lot of decisions to keep the regs the same - I personally think it's a bad idea to have different regs unless there is some specific reason???
The Dunlop slicks / wets are damned good tyres and last well too...
Nick
PS I also have 1 ST (my car - 2nd in 2009 national championship) and a CAT D Donor for sale - contact me if anyone is interested (nick@nicksandersonracing.com)
