Was up at a track day the other weekend all the catch fencing at the chicane is gone and they have diggers relocating some of the earth so I'm wondering if they are planning on extending that trap after how close some cars have got to going over the fence?

Looks like the stories were true, gravel trap has been extended so they can race the track backwards.

Apparently one of the KMSC events is to be reverse direction ...

You'll need to polish the drivers side of your car now Dave.. I think the reverse direction for a KMSC meeting is a good idea. Otherwise it'd be neither here nor there if I did it but that would make me want to try and get out there.

Hey Guys My oldest son Colin, Stuart's big brother (except he's 5" shorter) raced the 1st ever reverse direction race at Knockhill in his Formula Ford about 16yrs ago. It's a whole different circuit backwards!

Talking of KMSC I wonder what their entry fees will be this year?
Sure a lot of people would like some fun but maybe don't have the money to do a full SMRC season. KMSC is a good option if the entry fees are cheap.
Money wise racing still does not stack up if your not flush with cash - 2x 10 mins races and a whole days tracktime at any track in the county are the same cost.

Good usp for kmsc meetings, kh have a licence to run the track backwards, smrc do not Surely the licence is always with the circuit owner because they're responsible for safety etc. Clubs like SMRC just hire the facility. That means that SMRC could if they wanted to run every other meeting as a "wrong way round" meeting. Could be a good way of keeping people interested.

The person who was telling me this is a lot more knowledgeable on the matter than me so I can only go on what I've been told. He was saying KH have a licence, SMRC don't, further SMRC wouldn't get one if they applied.

It is the venue that has the licence and it is always on display in the circuit office. I am pretty sure there were a couple of reverse meetings about ten years ago.

There were a couple of reverse direction meetings in either '96 or '97 (can't remember for sure). The last meeting had a huge accident coming out of Clark - i.e. between Clark and the chicane - and about a half dozen saloons had a coming together and ended up in the tyres. Drivers had to be cut out of their cars.
Also Ian Forrest rolled his XR2 (with help) coming up through Duffus onto the main straight.
The only other circuit to have a reverse direction license used to be Mallory - not sure about Rockingham now.

When I was up at the weekend I noticed they have cleared out all the infield too. Woohoo ive been banging on about that for years. Viewing from the inside of Scotsman, Chicane, Clarks - no longer just for marshalls.

was up at the track on sunday for training and a group of experienced track marshals walked the circuit, my opinions are that the bigger gravel trap at chicane will be a massive safety improvement but as usual knockhill have failed to provide a decent running ground for us marshals with the speccy fence too close to the tyres, what we want and need is a 3' wide relatively flat pathway between the fence and tyres so we can run to an incident safely. as at duffus it has not been done
