Throughout the 2006 Saloon and Sportscar Championship at Knockhill, it was possible to follow the progress of Peter Taddei in his Ford Fiesta as it changed shape and incresed dramatically in speed as the season progressed. Indeed, by the end of the year he was very close to the front. After missing the first round of 2007, he and his car are back and challenging cars you might well have expected to be a bit quicker. Peter was good enough to give us an answer to a handful of questions.
SCR: What is your racing background and how long have you been racing?
PT: I’ve always wanted to be a racing driver for as long as I can remember. My dad and uncle are ex rally drivers so I suppose that’s where my fascination with fast cars came from. I didn’t start racing until last year so I was pleased with second overall in my class.
SCR: When did you first race at Knockhill?
PT: I first drove at Knockhill when I was 17 on a track day experience and from then I knew I was hooked. I never decided to take the plunge into ‘real’ racing until late 2005 and started my first season in 2006.
SCR: What was the high point of your 2006 season?
PT: The high point of my 2006 season was passing Jim Geddie. To be fair it was wet and he was on slicks however it still felt good to pass a 100 grand Porsche in a 15 year old Fiesta!
SCR: What are your plans and hopes for 2007?
PT: My team have just finished my new car for this season. It looks pretty much the same as the last car but almost every part on the car is new. We missed the first meeting due to the engine not being finished in time, so I'm going to be pushing even harder for class wins for the rest of the season.
SCR: Do you have an ultimate goal in motorsport?
PT: I would love to race Formula 1. I'm going to try as hard as possible to win my class this year and then see what championships are available next year. Something like a 200bhp+ single make championship would interest me, Scottish Civic Type R championship would be good.
SCR: What track would you most like to drive on?
PT: Monaco. I think it would be an amazing experience. I'd probably spend too much time posing though and miss the start of the race!
SCR: As a Saloon & Sportscar driver, what would you most like to drive?
PT: A Formula 1 car. I think it would be the most amazing experience to drive a car that can produce that much power, grip and noise!
