On reading through the XR2 regs, I spotted a couple of things that I could do with some clarification on.
Firstly, in 5.7.7.2 says "the fitting of a SHRICK test socket is compulsory" (see appendix B). What the 'eck is a Shrick test socket? Also, I can't find an "appendix B" in the regs I downloaded?
Second point is in 6.4 (engine spec sheet) .... (n) says that an exhaust manifold heat shield ........... must be fitted. My car doesn't have one, and it doesn't look like it ever did? would it fail scrutineering for the lack of this?
Final point (for now) is that it says the headlamps can be removed, if replaced by a dummy plastic panel. Well I'm sure some of the cars I've seen at Knockhill had alluminium dummy headlamp panels (probably a bit tougher than plastic). Anyway, my car had headlamps, which I've now removed....... so can I use aluminium, or do I have to use plastic.
Small points I know, but i don't want to get to my first race and find the car fails scrutineering on something daft.
All advice greatfully appreciated.
Greg

Hi Greg, Tha man you need to speak to is Willie Greig, the Eligibility Scrutineer for Fiesta's, his number is in the Blue Book. In my experience... A SHRICK test socket is a socket for testing Shrick's Actually, I've no idea either, and if my car's got one it's probably somewhere near the Foofoo valve. The exhaust manifold hedat shield is a peice of metal which bolts to the top of the manifold. It's to provide a hot air intake for the engine in cold conditions. If you don't have one, get one, this could be a failure. Willie might let you away with a home made replacement. Think the headlamps can be replaced with anything you like provided they look something like headlamps. As for failing, they usually won't fail you but will give you a warning to fix it for next time round. Do make sure your electrical cut off works, all pull cables work, seat and belts are sound and all the red lights at the back work. Baz

Thanks for the response Baz. I did know what the heatshield was for, but I didn't know whether I'd have to retro fit one to comply with scrutineering. As suggested though, it's probably best if I stick one on, just to save any silly issues.
The car is currently in a thousand bits having everything checked, cleaned, painted, adjusted and renewed as required, so I'm hoping that come the first practice session it'll be in tip top working order.
Cheers again, Greg

........... and someone must know what a Shrick test socket is. I mean according to the regs, you should all have 'em!

Remember reading about the schrick thingy years ago too, but its not required. WG can confirm, but if I recall rightly its for reading power output .....

That's quite funny: you type "shrick test socket" into Google and the ONLY site, in the whole of the "interweb thingy" (to quote Chris Edwards), that includes that phrase is the SMRC XR2 regs!! Maybe it was the club committee's wee test to see if anyone actually read the regs. Greg - maybe you should get in touch with them to see if there is a prize?!

Norm..... that's exactly what I did . I Googled it, and the only reference that came back was a copy of the XR2 regulations. Maybe for "grey" areas like these there could be a bit of a refresh of the regulations. Ok, I'm new to this game and don't want to challenge the establishment quite so early, but surely non performance enhancing things like whether the dummy headlamps can be made of plastic or aluminium, or the fitting of an elusive Shrick socket, or indeed allowing the fitment of a stack type dash etc, could be clarified. In fact I know that the regs say that all dash clocks should be fitted and working, but some cars are already running race type dash pods? They also say that all dash air vents should be in place, but my roll cage goes right through that section of dashboard, and there is no way that the vents could be refitted. For us newbies, these kind of things could be important

Found it...it's apparently for testing the power output of the coil and saves having to unplug things. Can't remember hearing of anyone's coil being tested...so now I've mentioned it they'll all be getting checked in April (Hi Willie!) If the dash has been cut to accomodate a cage, should be fine...safety first and all. As long as it's not been hacked to bits to the point that there's feck all of it left! Rumour has it someone fitted a stack dash in place of the original clocks and had to fit the original clocks in the glove box to comply with the letter of the law I know not the truth in this rumour, as I've never seen the glove box dash...but the stack dash looks cool...if you've got a spare grand or two If you want to be 100% legal, then you have to take each rule to the letter. IF someone were to take the hump about being disqualified for some reason, they could happily protest most cars in the field for one reason or another as most probably breach some minor rule. Ian's car should be pretty spot on. If I remember right it was Sandy Forest's car previously, so it'll have been well examined by the scrutineers since the top three are always checked. Baz

Hi Baz, A coil tester eh! At least it exists though I actually dropped Chris Edwards a note asking if it was possible to clarify some of the grey areas, or maybe give the regs a wee refresh, mainly for the sake of us newbies. I'm certainly not questioning anyone elses cars etc, just trying to make things simpler if anything. The car was Ians, and Sandy's before that so I'm sure the basics are fine................ although whether it'll ever see a top 3 again is another question .............
