It is a forum where i think people are entitled to express their opinions.I read the piece by aland and found the content to be at odds with my experience as a driver. He obviously has found that drivers for whatever reason have on occasion not adhered to flags and feels that this has compromised marshals safety.I have found on occasion that flags have been missed or waved too late and have felt that this has compromised the safety of drivers.I think we are both entitled to comment on our experiences, both were given i am sure with the best possible intention.

It's so nice seeing so many new drivers coming into the 2010 championship especially in the 'current economic climate' - yeah that old chestnut As a marshal I love seeing new drivers develop over the season. It's great watching someone have their first tentative race, trying to keep out of trouble and just finish etc. Then developing their skills and the speed over the course of the year. Just try and keep an eye out for where the marshal posts are as it will be so easy to miss a yellow flag while your thinking about a million other things. Thanks mate, thats a good way of looking at Marshalling, the way the clocks ticking I may be doing some of this at the start as It would be good experience.................still waiting on my starter pack. Thanks for all the replies folks. emicen You have bought Chris's mini I take it? Another question, I have a twin axle trailer and use of a few minibusses for towing, but I take it a van would be handy for spares and tools? What essential equipment/spares would seem necessary to get you through a race day? I appreciate it could be another "how longs a piece of string" question but it would be good to get a wee bit of feedback on this. Thanks Yeah, bought ChrisP's mini. Went down to tweeks last Saturday and kitted myself out. Just need to do my ARDS test now!

I agree Porkie, in the perfect world all marshals should have race experiance and every driver had marshal experiance - but if you can conjure up around 50 ex drivers to be marshals (and thats at a small meeting) I am sure SMRC would like to hear from you. Howabout you give a marshal your proverbial car for a meeting and they can give you their proverbial smelly overalls and see how many blues you miss or yellows that go out late because your heads twirlling around like an owl looking up and down a track as your having to duck behind a tyre wall to avoid getting pebble-dashed when someones giving it the beans to keep going though the gravel trap - although maybe the yellow was already out before this LOL Doubtless faults are on both sides as nobody is perfect, only thing being most drivers have some solid steel tubing around you as a first defence, marshals have 2mm of orange fabric that stinks of cat wee when it gets wet and sometimes large testicles to lug trackside depending on the incident. Thats why marshals get irritable if incidents happen under yellows, and what Aland will be getting at is that drivers can come and experiance a marshals world a hell of a lot easier them experiancing a drivers - christ you even get a signature on your licence for it. A Caterham series gave you championship points if you done it a few years ago!!!!

I think all series give you a signature if you marshal for a day I could be wrong but I think that bobagg makes a excellent point. As both sides of the track can both comment on our experiences, maybe this year some should make it a new years resolution to see both sides. I would also bring into the equation, that as drivers, if you feel there has been a problem with a situation, that this information is given to the Clerk of the course in a constructive manner. That goes for drivers and marshals. foxyx x
