Looking through the regs, it says no race cars allowed on Speed Sundays or Hot Marques. So by that are we talking legends and formula fords or ALL cars used in competition? Seems a touch daft when Minis, XR2s, STs etc can all be road registered and quite a few have MOTs etc. That's would seriously restrict seat time before round one if test days are the only option

I can add, that we booked on a hot marques day, and got taken off track after one lap, and told that race cars werent allowed to take part. I guess that means we cant use those, or speed days, for testing. We have resorted to use other track days.

Tadstar - you probably upset all the scooby/ferrari/porsche boys by lapping them in your 'fiesta' Knockhill do a 'test pass' for £350 if you reckon you'll be doing more than 5 test sessions (in 2009 - £60 per session) - don't know full terms and conditions but I'm thinking of it as I spent £360 on testing last year (and still only saw the podium on the way to scrutineering

Plan on buying the testing pass only once the full compliment of dates is available. From my point of view at the moment, I've got a new car to learn, plus getting back in to the full swing of track driving and visibility of 2 sessions to do it in before the first race meeting of the year.
To some extent I could say fair enough on the Hot Marques front, but given Speed Sundays specifically mention cars with no MOT etc being put in to a track car only category, I reckon they must surely let tin tops on. The Bruce Taxis Evo VI is as much a race car as some of the sports and saloons competitors.

From what I saw on power images, there were some XR2 race car's and mini's at speed sunday sessions last year but says on the Knockhill site that only road and track cars are allowed. Depends what Knockhill would class an XR2 or mini as really As for hot marques, I belive this is a track session for Scooby's, Evo's Fezza's etc but I dont think an XR2 or a Fievo counts and it does say for road cars only.

I think the issue is never about the car itself - I have always been told that the issue is about race cars going out for full-on testing when other people are trundling around in their fancy road cars with no roll-cage and with baby seats in the back.

Russell Yeah, thats why I can see their point on the Hot Marques front. Someone rocks up in their brand spanking F430 Scuderia and theyre sitting in the holding area next to a Mini/ST/XR2/ANOther with duct tape replacing a headlight and rubber burns up the doors, you can see Knockhill's point, that would discourage the F430 driver from continuing as rightly or wrongly, he's going to assume his car is in danger of being damaged and at that price point, I reckon I'd tread cautiously too. There were Minis and XR2s out at the last Track Scotland day and there werent really any problems and that was with some very pricey metal on the track 996 GT3, E46 M3 CSL and R35 GTR from memory. I dont think you can ever really go out on a track day trying to set lap times or do anything other than coarse development, its always going to be more about seat time and managing to get sections of track dialled in when its clear so when you're doing actual testing you bolt the sections together and can get meaningful data from fiddling with pressures and angles and comparing laptimes. [hark the seasoned noobie here without so much as a licence behind him yet lol]

Back on topic, how often do other private track days/nights crop up? and if so are they well advertised? If not wheres the best place to find them? Heard Glenrothes Motor Club do a few throughout the year?

Just for information, Tadstar Racing have the track for testing (see post TESTING TIME AVAILABLE!!) March 27th Sat PM. Hopefully we will do another couple during the year. The test slots are basically for racers to set up a car. We limit to 20 cars, so the track is never too busy, and theres alaways a clear space for a decent run. WE supply free food and drinks too (hot and cold)... Dreadnought have a number of track nights throughout the season too. They are always well attended.

Heard Glenrothes Motor Club do a few throughout the year? Mine's on the 5th of March, I'm guessing Feb 15th is the rescheduled date for everyone meant to be doing it on the 20th of Jan? I've asked for a place on the Tadstar trackday to get extra seat time. Unfortunately my cars suspension is away getting rebuilt (and I'm trying to recover my bank balance after a long weekend in Verbier) which means I'll be missing the TrackScotland day on the 6th of Feb but hopefully I'll manage to get on a SpeedSunday before the season starts, if I'm allowed
