The amount of contact in the XR2 championship this year has been ridiculous. It seems that some drivers (and they are in the minority) would be better suited to stock cars rather than circuit racing. Unfortunately, they seem to get away with it and spoil it for everybody else.
Something needs to be done. As drivers, we must discuss driving standards and put some pointers down as to what is acceptable and what is not. XR2's seem to have the poorest standards, surely we can all get together to discuss how standards can be improved. Other classes seem to be able to compete at close quarters without contact, why not the XR2's? I also think that combining the ST class has not helped, especially in wet conditions.
Anybody have any ideas? How do we get the standards improved? What feedback is there available from SMRC officials? Overtaking under yellow flags is totally unacceptable and should be punished severely, yet nobody has been. Why?
There is a perception that XR2's are the poor mans racing class but there is no such thing as cheap racing. Some of the XR2's on the grid have had a lot of money spent on them. Even without sustaining damage, competing is expensive. The constant damage repair work is both time and budget consuming and will/does have an effect on race entries.
And let's not forget, we have not even touched on the safety issue, both for drivers and marshals............

Lets not dwell on the negative there has been some fantastic racing this season for which I would like to thank the drivers for providing us with this entertainment, I would also like to thank all those behind the scenes for the hard work they put in as well as my collegues in orange. It is the simple things that make me feel like I am appreciated like the wave from the drivers and the thankyou from race controll it makes a difference when stood in the cold and wet for almost 10 hours although we have been lucky this season to be honest. Last but no means least a huge thanks for my fellow marshals on post 10 where I have had to spend most of the season, for putting up with me and my poor effort at dancing and star jumps at the bottom of padock brae no it was not an earthquake it was me doing star jumps as it doesn't look like the NHS are going to get the finger out and fix my hernia it looks like you might be stuck with me next season on post 10 not that I want to leave it now ;D maybe next season we can work on Cpt Slow to get him dancing
