If I remember correctly the XR2s are running on Kumho tyres.
Any of the XR2 drivers car to comment on the "suitability" of Kumho tyres for use on the road on a rear wheel drive, 200bhp sportscar. In particular the Kumho 711 ?

We use the K9A which was an improvement after all the drivers complained about wear during 2001. The new tyre lasts a lot longer as it is a harder compound which has the same grip, more or less. Now I'm not too sure how much grip you would get on a 200+ bhp sportscar! Kumho tyres are used in a lot of big championships though and would certainly have a tyre type to suit. You could always take a look at their website... Someone like David Fiddes or the S&S guys may know more about it... Cheers, Nick www.ns-r.co.uk

Don't think that Kumho do a tyre that'll fit on my car. Most folk fit Goodyears and few brave souls have tried Pirellis or Michelins. I'm sure that there is at least one big saloon series down south that uses Kumho. Don't know how useful that would be for road use though. You might be better asking the question on www.pistonheads/gassing/ . There will be somebody there who will have tried them on something exotic. Be interesting to hear what the results were...

This may help? The BMW challenge also use Kumho tyres, although I have no idea what spec or compound. These are all rear wheel drive with some cars putting out well in excess of 200bhp ...
