Club Autosport is reporting that John Cleland is to have a shot of one of the Mini Cooper's at this weekends Doune HillClimb. He said that during testing, the car was so slow he thought the throttle cable had broke!!!
Would've been nicer to see him at Knockhill though in the Mini...
(PS - excuse my ignorance, but whereabouts is "Doune"??)

Surely it would have made sense to put their best celeb so far in an actual race at Knockhill... given that JC is a circuit racer and a very entertaining one at that it seems a real waste of the oppurtunity to put him in the car!

Doune is between Stirling and Callander. Head out west from Stirling, past the Safari Park, and Doune is another few miles along the road. Hill climb is just past the village on the right hand side. About an hour from Edinburgh.

Hill Climbs are actually pretty good to watch - especially at Doune when for most of the run the cars are flat out with about a foot on either side - a stone wall on one side and a barrier with a large drop on the other!
John Cleland started out doing Hill Climbs and was a Hill Climb Champion - so it is not so unusual for him.

Motorsport News says Cleland finished 3rd. It doesn't mention any other finishers (it was an article about Cleland), but it also states he's not looking at doing it again in the near future.

The points are up on the SMART Timing website - it's relatively easy to work out the positions from them, I think (about to go to bed, or I'd work it out and post them up now )

Ally McKever won the hill climb in the mini's. If you look in Autosport, you'll notice that one of the Scottish mini's is for sale for the rest of the season for 15K - I don't know who's car it is though... Nick www.ns-r.co.uk
