Does that price tie you to competing in the Clio Cup though ? Don't know... Were you conceived in the back seat of a Mondeo or an Escort? ;D

Strangely I've never got round to discussing that point with my parents. One of my first memories though was being in the back of our Sierra and being run into while waiting to turn right. As for you Michael Strong... I'll deal with you on the 30th March.. ;D Anyway back to Mini's... I didn't realise there were more very good drivers moving over, certainly should be interesting to watch these races.

Anyway back to Mini's... I didn't realise there were more very good drivers moving over, certainly should be interesting to watch these races. Yes - I think it will be interesting... What is also interesting is of course that in Englandshire the Mini Challenge comprises both the Cooper and the Cooper S.. I wonder if that will ever happen here because of course like the Fiesta ST the prices of the older Cooper S's is also coming down. ST costs will almost certainly fall a lot when the new Fiesta comes out later this year which means SI costs will also fall.. I have the feeling that both these series - the Fiestas and the Minis are going to go from strength to strength over the next few years and you could see drivers swapping back n forth. Indeed, as Nick suggested I can see growing (friendly) competition between the series and that's got to be good for the sport in Scotland.

The new clios are nice cars and Renault Sport really build them well. 20k seems a good price, thats just for the car but it does have 200bhp, sequential box, custom loom, race ecu, digi dash etc... But then you get to the first corner of the first race and everyone needs a new one.

the problems that renault had with the clios peed everyone off last year with the front uprights snapping like no tomorrow and a lot of the lads had to re-shell, fortunately renault eventually admitted the problem and supplied parts FOC. as for racing them afaik you are not tied to clio cup as some have been used in other championships.
also as renault have limited entries there is a lot going about and prices should reflect this, Mickey Doyle at dumbarton has his up for sale and I think john cleland has the ex finlay crocker one for sale

I had a small involvement with the previous cars and they were very good. The new cars seem a little bit fragile and as with the last cars, part prices (those sold by Renault Sport, which is nearly everything) are rediculous. Would make an excellent tarmac rally car if id was available.

I may stand corrected but I think there was some deal in 2007 that if you registered for the clio championship, you were not aloud to test or drive the cars yourself anywhere.
At Oultpn Park, one of the clios was testing with us but it wasn't the registered driver - he went off in front of me at Island Bend when his suspension snapped and he had a big impact - I think the clip is on youtube somewhere...
Speaking with Derek Pierce, he had the same problem with a huge shunt but renault paid for the re-shell.
Back on topic, the minis seem to be pretty strong cars though...
Nick.

Flaming hope so ;D ;D
Actually we've got ours at home at the moment fitting a new fire extinguisher, instruments and other stuff and I agree.. They're built like the proverbial brick sh*thouse.. Incredibly stiff little machines and really beautifully built electrics.

Does that price tie you to competing in the Clio Cup though ? no, they sold 50 or 60 something at the start of last year, you can do whatever you want with it. From what I've heard Renault really shot themselves in the foot last year as they sold many more Clio Cup cars than there were spaces on the grid, leaving a lot of people with a car they couldn't race in the championship they bought it to race in and consequently somewhat unhappy. For me the Clio Cup has taken single make racing too far. What started as essentially a stock hot-hatch back in the 90's has mutated into a pure bred race saloon. The racing is entertaining to watch for sure, but I wouldn't want to take part in it without a very large bank balance behind me! In fact there's probably better series to race in anyway...taking me nicely back on topic to the Mini's. As a race series they did have a shaky start but they seem to be going from strength to strength now. Looks like a tempting future prospect. Baz

The Clio Cup was a bit of disaster last year with BTCC TV schedule ruling all. If you are a supporting race and the main event runs over time Mr Gow just shunts your time slot. I know a couple of drivers that were in it last year and they were at that big empty arena... Rockingham. They got a 6 laps to go board then next time round were shown the last lap board as the Big Boys wanted there ball back!! On Minis.. As a loyal supporter of the series for 3 years I have seen some really nice changes to regs to make it a really level playing field. There are some very competetive guys out there next year, non more so than my own bloody teammates!! I hope they appreciate my 3 years of set up experience
