It's a pity because you were on for a Top 5 if not a podium at least Nick, & some nice points too. Ah well, maybe you'll get a win to pay for this.
I've had a terrible dream/nightmare?? last night about one of the Mini's, I was stood at Clark and suddenly one shot over Glenvargill with lots of air, and hit the tyres half way up the straight to Clark, rolled all the way up to Clark and deposited itself in one of the sheds there. I'm not going back to Clark again I tell ya!

Yeah it took about 7 marshalls to push the car out again!
They did give it a go during the race but believe me its a very scary and dangerous place to be durning a race!
I ran round the gravel with a fire extingusher to get to a car that was on fire the one time at that corner and it was well scary, they fly through that corner!

Well its good to be back racing although my race was pretty quiet once Stuart Scott and Peter Cruickshank got away from me. I think I cooked my tyres early on as I stuggled for grip for most of the race, particularly round the hairpin but my cruise around let me watch Stuart and Peter fight it out in front of me and Norm have a battle with a newcomer behind me. Still at least I picked up a couple of points and no damage which is more than Nick can say. By the way Nick, Dave C came round to the garage for a chat for you but you had already left. His version of events seemed a litle different to yours but that is just what you would expect. Qualifying for me was pretty much as expected. I seem to be stuck around the same kind of times. I need to pick up the pace but maybe the new car will help (if that ever happens).
The day's racing was good I thought. The Zetecs were quite entertaining and ex XR2 boy Duncan Vincent was unlucky not to get 3rd on his debut. The legends were their usual good selves. Don't know who he was, as he must have been a novice (he started at the back) but legend No 46 picked up at least 6 places in each of the 3 races. Look out for him in the future. I thought the minis were excellent. I think I had a quick glance at one of their time sheets and from what I saw they weren't much slower than the XR2's. For the record Aly McKeever was excluded from the first race - his ABS had been switched off which is against the rules. So both wins go to you know who. AK winning both is a bit disappointing in some respects but does show how good a driver he is and its up to the rest of us to catch him. I didn't see much of the rest of the racing but in the post-mortem to the XR2 race, I spoke to Andy Allan. He really was kicking himself, at least its a lesson learnt I think. Ian Forrest was a bit off the pace in qualifying in both the minis and the XR2's but ran strongly in the races.
Roll on the 27th..

His version of events seemed a litle different to yours but that is just what you would expect As an unbiased opinion, I would say Nicks description of events was what I saw, slightly wider line being slight but Dave C came from so far back with so much speed he would have needed the whole track plus some of the plastic grass to recover. Just back from engineers, my dodgy gear linkage cost about £150 since I cracked the valve guides and its a big job replacing them, heat head to 300deg etc, good thing though is it should be ready tomorrow afternoon, so should have car back in one piece Tuesday night, so guess what we're spending the next fortnight doing ..... getting that gear change as smooth as silk Nick, I was a bit gobbsmakked when I saw you in the gravel so early on, as they say it's tough at the top.

Yeah, I have no problem with Dave as I know he wouldn't intentionally push anyone off but I stick by my description that the move was not on - he was much to far back - it was already my corner.

Ouch. Could have been a lot worse though. Some engines start to drop con rods and stick things out of the block they way that they shouldn't when you over-rev them.
Speaking of bad blow ups. Does anyone know what happened to Kevin Adam? That was one heck of a lot of oil his car left on the start/finish straight...

hi all it's good to be back racing, even if it didn't go to plan! and thanks for the good words in some of the posts, but it was luck rather than skil! in the final i think. race 1. the car was not handling at all in the first race, when i braked at duffus the car turned left yes left ( now that 's tricky) at the hairpin it was the same when i braked it wanted to turn left .this made the car snake allover the place when i was correcting it. so rather than take someone else off i backed off a bit. race 2 was not much better after fixing some problems (rear axle bolt left side very slack) car was still handling bad under braking and was losing time into corners and then losing speed out of the corners.( does not work well in legends as everybody just goes flying past). after checking the front brakes (brand new pads) found right side inside pad had separated from the metal ( this does not work well under heavy braking) replaced with last years pads and went racing. the car was handling better for the final so i just went to the top off duffus flat-chat in ? th(better not say which gear) over the top which seemed to work and braked for Mcintyres???. this seemed to put me in front for a lap or two which was good. but the car was lacking top end speed i think(or was it the driver) not bad for straight out of the garage and on to the track and no track time before hand! it seemed everybody was out two or three time in the last week or so bar me. so that was my days racing not good but the car is home in one whole bit, not like some new paint schemes!! by the way who noticed that most people have changed their cars this year and their numbers too. strange i think. some one mention'd car 46 valintino rossssiiiiii sorry chris atkinson? he was park next too me in the pits he's an ex hotrodder from cowdenbeath so yes i think he is going to be quick.his car was one of ali's hire cars last year.

...to clarify, the official gap between Sandy Forrest and Andy Allan at the chequered flag was 0.25 seconds...

Good to get back on track even although the scrutineers did there best by adding to my excitement by failing my cage by a missing weld only a 1/4 of a inch long. Thank to ICR motorsport for some timely welding. Neil and I seem to have a habit of being infront or behind of each other on the grid. I was not happy about the lights as I couldn't see the bridge for other cars, and the repeater light was obscured by a roof. I could only see the redlight go off and no green. However, got a good start but Neil was struggling for grip (& gears!) and I had only one option of taking the agricultural route (again) to avoid a repair bill . Once I rejoined the tarmac I was dead last . The race was quite frustrating as I caught Barry Holmes but never quite had the power to get past. The time I did, get him coming out of the Hairpin , I missed 3rd and lost the opportunity . I thought the car was not going as well as it has in the past and was lacking power on the straight and along railway. Looking at the timesheets today , the times are all going in the right direction. Not my best result but a finish nonetheless.

Still can't believe that qualifying was my first time on the track in 7 months!! Didn't start well as I did half a lap and then the engine developed a misfire. Stayed out to do my three laps to guarantee my place in the final, then came in. Thankfully we quickly spotted the loose plug lead and I managed a couple of "flying" laps (though don't think anyone else would consider 68.5 a flying lap!).
Then drove to my sister's house, picked up the new plug leads which I had bought but not fitted, drove back to the track and fitted them. Why hadn't I done that in the first place....
Race was great fun. Got a great start (sorry Ian, I think I may have been blocking the lights for you. It really is poor how many parts of the grid can't actually see the lights!), and then proceeded to spend most of the race tussling with Alastair Hart (77). I was much better on the brakes, and faster through the corners, but he always managed to pull slightly away from me on the straights such that I couldn't risk having a go. Did get past him once, but he got me straight back. Towards the end the car developed a sporadic misfire (more plug lead issues) so I dropped back.
Bleedin' 16th, again, so still no championship point.
Still, that's all the dust blown off, and assuming the car is functioning well in a fortnight will be good to get out and push harder.
Personally I enjoyed the minis, and had a quite a good view of the Klos incident along with all the masses of people at Duffus! It really was the best crowd I can remember.

Unlucky Norm - I'm sure once you have your car sorted, you'll get your first points...you can change your signature note then!
Ian/Neil - please can you run off another couple of ScottishClubRacing stickers for me - the two that you gave to me ended up on John's car.
All,
The XR2 results, championship points and "Fantasy XR2" league tables will all be uploaded to the main NS-R website tonight (hopefully!).
We will also be e-Mailing a copy of the teams to the team owner so you have a copy for yourself.
GR - You should be able to get the full results from Sharp Timing in the next couple of days.

Great to see so many people joining in here already - you've all filled in a lot of gaps from the races, so thanks everyone Shame so many of you have had various gremlins (or other drivers) causing troubles for you this time out, but I'm sure it'll get better throughout the season Btw, dunno if it's a natural increase following the race anyway, or if those stickers are really having an effect, but according to my stats we've been visited 46 times already today... the most we've had in a day before now is 28! Admittedly a lot of them look like the same people visiting the index page multiple times (guess they're looking for an update - have some patience everyone, there'll be one tonight or tomorrow, hopefully! ), but even so, it's a big increase on normal levels of visits Anyone reading this who's not signed up to the forum yet, feel free to join in and add your thoughts on the season opener

Stickers shouldn't be a problem but now the seasons started I'll need some dosh so can't donate any more, £5 each so if you e-mail me and I'll see how many to get done. Needs to be done in batches of 10.

Neil - if you order a batch of 10, I'll easily be able to shift them...you won't end up out of pocket.
