Dick W posted yesterday about there seeming to have been sprints at Ingliston going on for the last wee while, and this reminded me of something I've been thinking about recently.
Why are motorsport fans so fragmented? Off the top of my head, I can think of the following types of motorsport going on in Scotland:
- circuit racing (cars, of numerous different types)
- stock cars
- grass track (autograss?)
- sprints
- hill climbs
- rallying
- rallycross
- karting
- speedway
- circuit racing (bikes)
- moto cross
- the funny ones that student car clubs run, doing hand brake turns in car parks (autotests?)
I'm sure there are many that others can come up with.
Maybe I'm just a simple soul, but I tend to think that most of us here would find most types of motorsport entertaining, yet it does seem (and I'll be glad to be corrected) that most people just stick to one or maybe two types of motorsport.
Part of the problem is that it does actually seem quite hard to find out what is going on!
My money making idea (and someone can have this one for free!) would be to set up a website that collated all motorsport that is going on in Scotland. Surely in everyone's interest in terms of publicising their events to a like minded audience.
Imagine the scene:
"I've got to go to Aberdeen for a two week course! What am I going do with myself?" (Sorry Dick!)
"Check out this great new website: it says that the stock cars are on at Crimond the weekend you'll be in Aberdeen, why not go along?"
"You know what, I think I will. I used to think that stock cars was all demolition derbies and no skill, but perhaps I'm wrong..."

P.S. if this website does already exist then please send me the address! Ta.
