The XR2 is finished, doesn't even bare thinking about the outcome were it not for the cage. As it was, cuts and bruises were about the sum of it. Sad to hear about the car, pleased to hear the cage did it's job and you're OK. Having tested a few roll cages myself, I like them. Baz Wasnt me mate, I was out in the Mini. I was chatting to him afterwards though and he was ok, bit sore but nothing broken. Few cuts on his forehead from the gravel coming in but nothing else visual.

Gutted for the driver, pretty much the worst way to start the season Glad he's fighting fit and hope he gets a rebuild before too long. Sorry to hear your problems as well Greg, I'm betting those first 2 laps were mega though!

Cheers Martin.... feeling lucky compared to the bloke who totalled the white car. The second lap was starting to become fun, then bang. Never mind, at least it's still in one piece (well many pieces in the engine compartment!)

This isn't meant to be smart or funny but couldnt you get the engine out of the car that rolled and put it into the buzzed one and then figure out what to do from there ?

Good to meet all you fellow racers and marshals today Well, not a great end to todays test. This was my very first time out with the XR2 after a few months of getting it ready. Although I've done hundreds of Knockhill trackday laps, I couldn't believe how nervy I was feeling prior to heading out for my first session. So, here's a quick summary - 1st lap - Onto the circuit and kept it steady to warm up the brakes and tyres, happy that I avoided the white XR2 spinning in front of me. 2nd lap - actually started to feel quite at ease with the car as it was doing everything quite nicely. Having never driven anything but rear drivers on track, I was quite pleased with the feel of the car, even correcting a nice gentle slide through Carlube. 3rd lap, heading down to the hairpin, changed up from 3rd to 4th, missed the cog and that was that Trailered the car back home before lunchtime and whipped the head off to find a headfull of bent valves. I've looked for every excuse possible, but depressingly can't avoid the fact it was probably just driver error I've heard before that it's quite easy to "buzz" the CVH engine..... and today I discovered just how easy it is Anyway, I kind of expected that the engine would need a rebuild at some point this season...... but not quite so soon! Any recommendations...... ICR etc? Of if anyone has a spare one in good nick, I'd be happy to hear from you. Ach well.... happy days eh! Engine services in Rosewell have full facilities for everything on site, have extensive race engine knowledge and just built and sealed 4 XR2 engines.. for Tim Sleigh and others. Highly recommended! ...and just why would you need a flow bench for an XR2 engine Mike Baz

To find a cylinder head with the best flow rate, no??

Find one that flows well....finding one is the first part of the problem! The guy that sold me the last one I bought offered me some hens teeth at the same time I was alluding to possible 'fine tuning' of the flow of said head ;D Baz

Hi Mike, Yeah they have a flow bench and would be only to willing for you to drop off a selection of heads for them to test. If you have a spare one think i could find a home for it Hope this helps Tim

Engine Services - or Plenderleith (sp?) as I used to know them as - are an excellent workshop and have built me engines in the past. I'm getting my head rebuilt by Iain C. He's using the most advanced "flow" method available - he's leaving it outside his garage overnight and letting the Knockhill wind get at it. BTW Good luck Tim.
